They stop eating at sun rise and start again at sun set...so they really only miss one meal... lunch...or put it off for a few hours...

for ramadan they keep every item served during the day and feast after sundown in the mess hall and depending on the warden/lt. not wanting problems they take leftovers back to their cells.
