A good Samaritan on Sunday jumped into a bay to save an infant in an Ocean City, Maryland, who fell into the water below after being ejected in a crash.

Seven others were also injured, according to the Ocean City Fire Department.

Officials said emergency crews were called at 2:47 p.m. to the Maryland Route 90 bridge for a crash involving a vehicle that was half way over the guardrail.

Officials said an infant was ejected from the vehicle that was teetering over the guardrail, landing in the Assawoman Bay below. Officials said a good Samaritan jumped over the guardrail and into the bay, rescuing the infant.

Firefighters secured the vehicle with rescue tools while paramedics treated multiple patients. Seven people were taken to hospitals, and the infant was flown to Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore.

Police continue to investigate the crash.

Story doesn’t pass logic test as written.

Infant “ejected”? Looking at the pictures perhaps it fell or was accidentally dropped from someone’s grasp as they Ttempted to exit.

No car seat mentioned.

If it was an ejection, then the child flew out during the event. Someone managed to see that, get stopped, jump into still cold waters of the bay, locate and save the child,, swim(?) and await the arrival of first responders (15 min maybe).

With the ‘facts’ presented, I am not going with the story as written.

PS, looking at the vehicle pics in the story, I don’t really see enough missing glass to allow an ejection.

Other news sources tell us that authorities have called it a mass causuality event with 8 injured people. The term infant has been posted in quotation marks.

From photos it appears to be a single car accident, though it may only seem that way because of the focus on the more dramatic position of the car.

Specific location is named :

Assawoman Bay (locally /ˈæsəwʊmən/),

once called Assawoman Sound, is a lagoon that is located between Ocean City, Maryland and mainland Delmarva. The bay is located on the northern end of the city, the bay on the southern end is called the Isle of Wight Bay. Another bay called Little Assawoman Bay extends into southern Delaware, and is geologically separated from the main estuaries, by a narrow strait locally referred to as “The Ditch” which crosses the Transpeninsular Line. The larger bay is sometimes called “Big Assawoman Bay”, to distinguish it from the smaller bay, though this is often meant to be a tongue-in-cheek rendering of the name.

The obscure location being named by non-local media is sure to attract the attention and protests of feminist groups objecting to the “derogatory” name. Though the Kardcashians, Cardi B, Stacy Owens, Oprah, et al may become vocal supporters of the Big Assawoman location name.

Two vehicle accident.
7 people injured.
No indication how many in each vehicle or if there were other passengers that weren’t injured.

I agree don’t see how the kid was “ejected”.

“Ass a woman Bay?”

It’s from the Italian: “Ats a big-ass-a-woman!”

Sadly, the weight of the child would be down then.
