Olympia Dukakis, Hollywood’s favorite late bloomer who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in “Moonstruck” — has died at the age of 89.
Dukakis, a cousin of former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, died Saturday at her home in New York City. Her brother, Apollo Dukakis, wrote on Facebook, “After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her [husband] Louis.”
In addition to her scene-stealing turn as Cher’s sardonic Brooklyn mom in 1987’s “Moonstruck,” Dukakis was known for her roles in “Steel Magnolias,” “Look Who’s Talking” and “Mr. Holland’s Opus” among many other films.

Talented actress. RIP.
Sad...
Far too young to die...
True, but then that meant the GOP was stuck with the Bush Curse.
She was great in Moonstruck. I don’t care about her politics. She made me smile for two hours.
She played pretend. And she did it well. Some folks need to lighten up and enjoy stuff when you can.
True, that's why we've been living in Hell for a long time between Reagan and Trump. And now Biden and Harris.
Next: Kasich or Pence with promise of Durham as his VP. Versus Kamala and her VP. Maybe Chelsea?
It never ends.
RIP Ms. Dukakis. I’ll never forget Clairee Belcher...gotta put politics aside sometime........;)
Terrific in Moonstruck. One of my favorite movies. I still laugh when I watch it and must have seen it twenty times.

You are so right! Just like Moonstruck with you, my special memory was Clairee Belcher in Steel Magnolias. I still quote her and Ouiser Boudreaux from that movie. Good memories......;)
I’m very saddened by that one too. I loved him on the Rifleman and I thought he was a good singer. Every April I send my Niece a birthday greeting with “Cindy’s Birthday” on it......I love that song.
“Gee....a Connie dies.”
Much prefer to see a Karen die, but better than nothing.
