An elderly husband and wife duo living in an assisted living facility in Tennessee caused quite a stir last month after busting out of a secure unit using Morse code, The Tennessean reports. The pair, who has not been identified, suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s and were living in a part of the Lebanon facility with an electronic door lock. But they baffled staffers after vanishing from the premises, leaving employees wondering how they could have possibly gotten past the secure door with an electronic keypad. Documents from the Tennessee Department of Health show that after the couple was found wandering along a nearby road following their escape, the man confessed to staffers that he “previously worked with Morse code in the military” and had simply deciphered the door code by listening closely to the sounds it made when employees used it. The facility was hit with a $2,000 fine as a result of the couple’s getaway, and it has since changed its door codes.

They should have said that aliens had kidnapped them and given them the secret codes.
Then they could have sold book rights!
I agree.
Three dots, three dashs and three dots.

Hmmm, some elderly with dementia are diabetic or have heart disease or have whatever you want to name and simply can’t remember to take their meds and will die within 24 to 48 hours. I’ve seen it up close. Think - these care facilities are not evil.
Alzheimer’s is the cruelest disease. It’s like watching the lights slowly go out, and there’s nothing in the world you can do about it.
Good way to describe it. I have seen it several times.
Maybe it meant more to them to get out together and be free?
He wasn’t so diminished he couldn’t sort things out and escape, they could have called for help, too.
Obviously they’re not happy there.
Some care facilities ARE evil.
Perhaps you will let someone you know die in 24 hours so they can be ‘free’ for a day. While 95% of the time your loved ones are very happy and cared for - except 1 to 5% of the time when they get agitated want to get out. Very Hollywood.
Good grief...
It absolutely is a terrible thing to watch for anyone much less a family member....
I hope to go quickly....we had a friend that passed away about a year ago that went to bed and when he didn’t get up in the morning with his wife, he was dead, died quietly in his sleep, basically went to bed and never woke up....of all the ways you can go that is a pretty decent way...
Basically, you have never thoughtfully dealt with this personally. Understand.
Yes,I want to die quietly in my sleep like my grandpa.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.😏
Yes, very Logan's Run, only more like Money's Run. They keep you locked up until your money runs out, then it's off to the Sleepshop and the toxic pleasure gas. Welcome to dystopia.
They don't do this in non-socialist countries. Get out while you still can.
The couple did not use Morse Code to escape. Nothing to do with Morse Code. The ability to understand Morse Code organized the mind of the guy in such a way that it was able to interpret the sounds of the lock.
But then I don’t expect journalists to know anything.
I hope Providence’s destiny will not assign me a place where my kids have to care for me in my later years. Being in my forties and the trajectory of this county, I likely will not.
You don’t have a clue.
Okay
God bless him! After all these years, he’s still got it! Foiled the enemy of his peace!
They have probably not been able to see their family members and were going out of their minds from the draconian rules. God bless them both.
