You raise a good point. If these are aliens of some kind, they have only lurked. And that tells us a huge amount about them.

If they were here to kill us, they would have done so. If they were here to chat, they would have done so.

People who have worked with "abductees" say these beings are not friendly or benign either. So they don't seem to be here to help us.

And given the above, we can begin to see that they behave according to what we might call "rules of engagement." If that is the case, who established those rules of engagement and who enforces them.

All that narrows the mystery a little bit.
