The NYPD will part ways with “Digidog,” the robotic police dog that became the subject of a City Council subpoena after images of it went viral.

The sudden termination comes after a clip of the machine patrolling a Manhattan housing project went viral, sparking backlash and drawing comparisons to the dystopic TV series “Black Mirror.”

“People had figured out the catchphrases and the language to somehow make this evil,”

earning jeers from local politicians including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who called it a “robotic surveillance ground drone.”

These policy makers are morons.

You send these to neighborhoods that are AFFLUENT. They patrol the street and when someone tries to break into your car, the robot dog mounts it’s M-2 and sprays .50 caliber bullets into the perp.

THAT is how you gain acceptance of police drones - put them in neighborhoods that crack addicts are using as piggy banks.

Seriously, I thought DeBlasio disbanded the NYC TARU unit.

NO ONE should patrol a housing project.

This is the future of police like it or not. Hopefully the silver lining of the era of hate the police is that they will refuse to be expendable to the f*ck the police and lawless scum. Drones, robots and non human substations is the ticket for the animals in the DNC dh*t holes.

I heard a loud clang and didn’t think much of it until I almost tripped on some metal slag near the curb and realized the robodog had crapped on the sidewalk.

Having a digital dog is a good idea. It can deliver megabites to criminals in record time.

No word on whether digital fire hydrants are required.

All it is, is a walking camera/mic.

But it is much cheaper than a human cop, when you factor in salary, benefits, and insurance, and that the robot can work 24/7.

The big thing that criminals could fear, is that its camera is continuously recording faces and locations. Add to it facial recognition software, and it can pick out people with outstanding warrants, and provide a list of likely suspects whenever a crime occurs.

In a way you are correct, it is just a tool. In another, much more important way, that is a short sighted view.

Once remote sensors become more prevalent, crimes can be much more quickly identified, recorded, and pursued. The politicians deciding what constitutes a crime are also a lot less dependant on actual humans in the police force to enforce the laws, and less dependant on the inefficient conveyance of criminal activity to piece crimes together.

Say, for instance, you want to attend a political rally. A speaker at that rally is later deemed an enemy of the state and his followers deemed dangerous. With enough surveillance data, your rally attendence is not just identified and you flagged as a bad actor, but all of the other surveillance information on you is flagged and pursued as well. All of a sudden your bank cards don't work for certain putchases, you can't get on a plane, and your kid's student loan application just got rejected.

This is happening in China right now and given the FBI response after the Jan 6 rally, it's clear there are elements of law enforcement who are happy to let it all happen in the US.

—”NO ONE should patrol a housing project.”

Back in the early 1980s the building I worked in need a new roof and closed for two weeks.
They sent me temporarily to a Chicago project Cabrini–Green.
My wife said QUIT!!!

My new office was in a building surrounded by concertina wire about 15 feet high and next to a Police station!

Inside it was immaculate, everyone was very nice to me and I was often the only person in the building without a deep suntan.

They took great delight in giving me a tour and a brief history.
They said it was much improved and safe to walk the halls, but not alone.
A most memorable story of the bad old days.
Three guys (two white) walking down a corridor when shooting started!
Deeply concerned ... a door opens and an older female resident steps out with a shotgun!
Says”Get in here, it’s safe”...

She told them not to worry because she was a better shot than the gangbangers!
When the cops cleared the area they left.

I noticed that the main parking area was full up in the morning and then emptied out? Many of the residents had jobs to go to.

“Some are upset, because it could potentially be effective.”

Others are upset because it’s just one more creeping step towards the all-encompassing surveillance state.

They should have kept it in case they ever need a robot to deliver a bomb to a holed up sniper like the Dallas cops did several years ago.

Perhaps the project residents would feel more comfortable with a Wakanda Black Panther robot patrolling the hallways?
