The other day some FReeper said that they get the flu every year despite getting an annual flu shot.
I corrected them. They get the flu every year BECAUSE the get an annual flu shot.
Then there are folks like my lovely wife. She gets sinus infections 2-3 times a year. She refuses to get a simple sinuplasty. Instead she gets her doctor to prescribe yet another round of anti-biotics.
I tell her she has built up a resistance anti-biotics, and has been resistant for years.
She ignores this fact. And continues to get sinus infections. And then a Z-pac.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Antibiotic resistance is something that builds up in the microbe itself against antibiotics or a particular antibiotic, not something that develops in an individual in a general way.
It’s something we should be careful of activating, since it limits the use of antibiotics in the treating of infections.
