bullshit, not if you don’t use antifreeze and the temp stays above 10 degrees

There are all sorts of designs out there: https://www.panparks.org/vertical-axis-wind-turbines/

It will come down to whichever design is more efficient at killing birds.

Great!
Hopefully they don’t kill birds. And they can have de-icing capabilities cheap. And, the old blades are recyclable and don’t clog up our ecosystem when they are disposed. And they don’t have as much light flicker pollution. And they don’t create the headache causing noise pollution.

They probably all kill millions of birds.

A lot of the vertical axis windmills are very bird friendly, partly because of their small footprint.

They still look like they are going to mangle birds.

Small footprint means small power output... not that it matters because all IWTs are useless.

I thought this article was about the bladeless vertical tech from a story a month ago - Bladeless wind generator

By small footprint I mean compact design, rather than long blades spinning at very high speed catching birds off guard. The same power producing area can be incorporated in a verticle spinner that doesn’t extend out like a blade. A spinning cylinder is easier for them to see and avoid.

There is no future for wind. The future belongs to nuclear.

That was my exact thought as well. I hope the Vortex folks finish their development soon. I know of several places these things would be the perfect fit.

There is oh.so.much energy you can suck out of the sky. And of course windfarms have no effect on the regional climate....

Nah..... it’s Thorium reactors.

Ahem, what principle do you think Thorium reactors work on?

by bird friendly, do you mean kills less birds?

they should have some sort of light/sound system to keep birds away
