The nation's largest Korean-American community is grim, armed and determined to repel racial violence in its riot-scarred corner of the city.
A vigilante Korean security force, wearing white scarves, is patrolling the burned and looted shops of Koreatown, the economically vibrant enclave just north of the sad streets of South-Central Los Angeles, where black and Hispanic residents struggle with poverty and crime.

Article from back in 1992 when the New York Times actually printed the truth
But ... Trump....
The NY Times have rarely printed the truth since it’s inception. Good article, relevant to our current situation.
We need more rooftop Koreans. A lot more.
Back then the cops were on the Koreans’ side. Not now.
Agreed. I’ll take Koreans over blacks as neighbors anytime.
The same New York Times that minimized the Holocaust and got a Pulitzer for its lies about the mass starvation of Ukraine?
“They’re lazy; we are working hard. They’re not making money; we are making money.”
~~~
That is a cutting statement.
In this country, all you ever have to do is work hard, and you will rise, even prosper. You don’t have to catch lightening in a bottle.
But I have to question how much of it is by design.
To let the edge cut yet deeper, I would suggest that the word “lazy” is imprecise, and ironic. Ironic because just calling it lazy is in itself lazy. When large segments of your demographic have a victim mindset, and the powers that be, both political and cultural, are telling you that you should feel alienated, you resent the system. Appearing ‘lazy’ is a symptom. It’s not the cause. The disease is not just institutional lack of hope, but being indoctrinated into a dismal and angry box.
A lot of hispanics work very very hard. Both the legal citizens and the aliens. First generation particularly, would put almost all other American’s to shame with how much work they put out. They are also very family oriented. Supporting and lifting each other up. In general, not a victim mindset at all.
But it’s not about physical work. Like Korean shop owners, it’s about commitment and tenacity. Something you cannot keep up long term if you hold the belief (whether given or sought) that the system is against you.
Who is behind it?
“They’re lazy; we are working hard. They’re not making money; we are making money.”
True then and still true now.
For the most part, Asians in LA are not looking for handouts or special considerations. Blacks are just the opposite and are entirely dependent upon government handouts, affirmative action for employment and college enrollment.
I'd love to buy that guy dinner and drinks.
I think he may be sporting the rare Daewoo K1A1.
1 Asian is worth 10 Blacks.
Democrats and Quisling Republicans. Ultimately the source of the madness is the idea you have to justify your existence by serving your fellow man. Liberty is essentially selfish but it was what made America great. The selfless or leftist side faced a long uphill battle tearing America down but they are only a Filabuster vote away from total victory now.
It was Trump’s fault back then too
Thomas Sowell described this phenomenon very well in his book “Black Rednecks and White Liberals”. He called it the enmity against purveyors of the “middleman economy” where a group (like an ethnicity) flourishes in an area due to entrepreneurship and hard work, raising the ire and envy of existing populations. It has happened throughout history (Jews in Europe in the Middle Ages, e.g.) and it has had horrific consequences (Jews being expelled or, even worse, the Armenian genocide by the Turks).
Interestingly, blacks in America are particularly prone to this form of enmity, according to Dr. Sowell. Before the violence against Koreans, blacks in Harlem railed against the successes of Caribbean blacks (from Jamaica and Bahamas) in school and business. Caribbean blacks were a huge part of the so-called Harlem Renaissance in the early 20th century, much to the annoyance of the black denizens there.
Why is it poverty and crime, not crime and poverty?
As Leftist urban liberalism continues to implode and become urban sh*thole cesspools......
I don’t blame these Korean shopkeepers- not one tiny bit, and if they need to go this far to protect themselves and their families from the mob of savages then so be it.
Know who is to blame? That dopey dipsh*t Garcetti and the other dipsh*t Newsome. THEY created this mess, THEY have destroyed the state and THEY, and a long list of other demonRATs, have fed the destruction of the cities and the middle class in CA. It leaves one to wonder- WHEN will the regular people stop contributing to their own destruction and stop electing demonRATs?
