“So, while almost everybody hates “We Built This City,” almost everybody also hates “Sussudio,”

Yes. Both.

Obama said you didn’t build the city. The government did.

In Defense Of: Starship’s ‘We Built This City’

There is no defense. One of the worst rock songs I've ever heard. One of the worst songs, period.

When it comes on, I hit the button faster than a Family Feud contestant.

I never hated it.. There were MANY much worse songs from the '80s.

Any song that has Grace Slick singing it worth a listen.

Is anything more subjective, than music, or particular songs, or particular rock groups?

I’ve heard lots of arguments, as to whether certain groups or singers, are even considered rock singers. Is Phil Collins considered rock? What about Barry Manilow? Billy Joel? What about the Hanson boys? Steve Miller Band? Emerson Lake and Palmer?

Everyone likes what they like. Not everyone likes every song or album by groups or singers they are fans of.

There were worse songs.

None of that helps this song in any way.

“Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” leads to yacht rock and that leads to Steely Dan.

"Yacht Rock" is Christopher Cross and "Sailing". It's not Steely Dan - not to me, anyway.

I actually went to a Starship concert in 1986, I think it was. I think it $35 for a ticket. It wasn’t bad. Grace Slick still sang White Rabbit and Somebody to Love. The Outfield was supposed to open for them, but they didn’t show.

Try focusing on the drumming in this song. It’s like a 12 year old who just learned how to play. Utterly plodding, complete lack of any rhythm, drive, groove, or inventiveness. Just kind of banging away in the most simplistic, unimaginative way possible. For me, it drags what should just be an insipid, boring song into something completely unlistenable. I don’t think I’ve ever managed to make it throughthe entire thing.
