Saul Alinsky was a brilliant man. Evil, but brilliant. Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, everyone on the Left from the President on down is playing by his rules in the political arena. Not all liberals have read his book or know his name, but his tactics have become universal. Sadly for conservatives, when two evenly matched forces go head-to-head outside of a fairy tale, the side that tries to play nice usually ends up with its head in a box. So, don't lie or become an evil person like Alinsky, but learn from what he wrote and give the Left a taste of its own medicine.
1) Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.
2) Never go outside the experience of your people.
3) Wherever possible go outside the experience of the enemy.
4) Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.
4A) Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.
6) A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.
7) A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.
8) Keep the pressure on.
9) The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.
10) The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.
11) If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.
12) The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.
13) Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
Gretchen-fuhrer.
My first tactic was to know the program better than them.
Second tactic was to get that information into the hands of parents without seeming to have an opinion on it. That was tricky.
Another tried and true Alinsky tactic was to make the whole room think that you and your hidden pals, who are actually in the minority, are running the meeting. That too was tricky.
1) Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have. Check.
2) Never go outside the experience of your people. Check.
3) Wherever possible go outside the experience of the enemy. Check.
4) Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. Check.
4A) Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. The joke was on them. Check.
6) A good tactic is one that your people enjoy. We did enjoy it. Check.
7) A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag. Our work only lasted 3 months. So Check.
8) Keep the pressure on. When the parents figured it out they added their own version of "pressure." Check.
9) The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself. Yeah, cuz they didn't know how many of us there were. Check.
10) The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. Yep. Check.
11) If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside. Alinsky-speak, but Check.
12) The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Sure thing. Check.
13) Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. That just happened in the way of doing business. Check.
We did not go to the media. We did not identify ourselves. We worked with a small group of about a dozen people.
We didn't know it but the ultimate authority in this scenario was the superintendent of schools and was planning on the implementation of this program to be her swan song as she rode off into retirement.
Yeah, instead of a swan song she got a big old bat to the back of her knees.
Additional Rules (not Alinsky):
14. A lie repeated often enough will become the truth.
15. A lie repeated by many, especially by the media, will become the truth.
16. The truth is what people believe it to be.
