I worked with a guy I went to high school with who had downs syndrome for many years. He loved me but boy I could irritate him in a heartbeat. He’d mutter under his breath as he walked away. I learned real fast how to get along with him. There’s also a guy with either slight down’s syndrome or light autism that works at a Krispy Kreme I patronize for coffee when in Vegas. He’s also very sweet but I watched him get really agitated very early one morning when I showed up and after getting my coffee and donut realized I’d left all my money in my room and the debit machine wasn’t up and running yet. He yelled at me to....just take it and go! I took it and then went back later, looked at him and smiled and said thanks, and dumped double what it would’ve cost in his tip jar. He smiled from ear to ear. Every one of them get frustrated very easily so the guy doing this is just an f’ing jerk.

“This is now becoming the norm, even in newspapers.”

It STARTED in newspapers. They defined it in their “style guides” and other writers emulate them.

However, as one poster here said, this kid probably should not have that position, unless he is working with another staff. Customers do become irate at times.

You might catch flak for saying this, but it's true. I doubt there's a single Freeper who, at some point, didn't complain about something to a clerk.

The kid should be doing back office stuff if he's able, or even just pushing a cart around collecting linens from vacated rooms.

Still, the guy filming was a jerk for a) filming and b) pushing it once he saw the kid wasn't normal and c) continuing to film while ridiculing his breakdown.

God. That was what I felt. That guy needs real help, not ridicule. I don’t care if he was black, white, or purple.

That was just sad.

I saw that video yesterday, and the jackoffs fighting with each other are one thing.

There was something I found particularly irritating and anger inducing watching the heavyset black woman having a great time videoing all of it with her phone.

I don’t know why, but I got the distinct impression she was enjoying it all immensely.

I can’t disagree fully that he shouldn’t have been in that position interacting with customers, but there are a lot of people trying to work at a job that is on the edge of their emotional and intellectual abilities to do well.

Like some places, his employer might have been trying to help him to work towards a somewhat normal career by allowing him to work at jobs to find a niche.

It is surprising to see the jobs that someone like that can take and perform. I don’t think a high pressure front desk job is one, to be sure.

And I don’t know who that black guy is, but he is a jerk. Many in “the public” can be jerks. I know I occasionally am, even though I try not to be.

I went into the bank the other day, and I put on the stupid mask to go in. I took off my hat, but was wearing sunglasses. They made me take off my sunglasses, and the stupidity of making me wear a mask but remove my hat and sunglasses just seemed...so typical. I understand the hat and glasses in a bank to a degree, but they are doing the equivalent of letting bandits with bandanas over their face in. I am as blind as a bat without my glasses (the sunglasses are prescription) and I could not hide the disgust and tones of irritation in my voice. I didn’t say anything bad or nasty, but I sure felt it as I am sure they could. The woman did a good job of not taking the tone personally and doing her job.
