I was stupid once as a youth as well.
I managed to get a 4 cylinder Ford Escort up to 100MPH. The speedometer didn’t go up that high - my buddy in the car behind me waved a towel when we hit 100.
Only reason I managed it was a very long downhill on a clean straight country road.
I’m wouldn’t be surprised in this case that maybe recreational substances were involved.
