A former Oklahoma resident is facing felony embezzlement charges for not returning a VHS tape rented in Norman more than two decades ago.
Online documents show Caron McBride is a wanted woman for never returning 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' on VHS tape in 1999.
"The first thing she told me was felony embezzlement, so, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack," McBride said.
McBride said she first learned about the charges when trying to change her name on her license after getting married in Texas.
"I went to change my driver's license, during this COVID thing you had to make an appointment, and so, I sent them an email (and) they sent me an email and they told me... that I had an issue in Oklahoma and this was the reference number for me to call this number and I did," McBride said.
McBride said the number was to the Cleveland County District Attorney's Office, where a woman there told her about the charges filed against her.
"She told me it was over the VHS tape and I had to make her repeat it because I thought, this is insane. This girl is kidding me, right? She wasn't kidding," McBride said.

45 years and counting....so far so good.
Joseph Stalin
Actually, Lavrentiy Beria, chief of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD), said that to Stalin.
LOL!
Remember the changes the movie and music industry were going through too, understandable why blockbuster was slow to get into streaming.
Music industry sued everyone people for downloading music. Movies were being pirated as well. Streaming movies from legit sources back then was not always good quality.
DVD was also competing with DIVX, a terrible idea no doubt thought up by production companies where you buy a hard copy of a dvd, and every time you watch it you had to rent it 😂.
The movie industry saw what was on the horizon with cheap dvd’s and tried to cut it off with divx. The blockbusters of the world were against that format, it cut them out. And they were slow to transition to streaming due to several industry factors at the time.
Thank god they can’t charge me late fees anymore. Good riddance.
After that happened once, I’d be getting a signed receipt for the return!
:)
She wuz freeze-framed.
*** I don’t think they have any “Gene” or other employee picks, though.***
“Vincent. Who is Gene?”
Correcting myself. I had to look, and see there was a Gene in that episode. I only remembered Vincent.
Just another example of systemic racism being imposed upon our less fortunate brothers and sisters of color. [/sarc]
Heck I am wearing my boxer underwear right now in front of my kids sipping my morning coffee. That is probably a felony.
Probably bad to let them sip your morning coffee.
Thank you. I came here just to see if FReepers were still on the ball!! Well done.
Netflix and their unlimited rentals for a whole month for $8.00 was a huge factor in the demise of the video rental stores.
No hassle stopping by the Blockbuster and dealing with the clerk. Just slip the disc in the prepaid envelope and drop it in the mailbox. Then wait for you next item to arrive a few days later.
Kind of a precursor to the Amazon shopping model when you think about it.
I wonder sometimes, whatever happened to video stores? Why did they go out of business? I would still go there, if they were still in business. I never got into internet streaming or hundreds of channels on satellite TV.
Gee I wonder why I can’t find a decent buggy whip anywhere?
That's a darned good question. Something must be missing in this story.
Shhh, don't tell anyone but I once tore the tag off my matress.
Maybe she will be set free with no cash bail...oh wait, I forgot..the no bail release only applies to violent criminals.
Maybe Victor Hugo could write a story about her.
Don’t break the law. Simple.
