Talk to Californians that wouldn’t start, because they didn’t have a way to charge their cars during the forest fires.

Formula One is already using capacitive braking. Only problem is the car cannot be touched for .5-4 hr after it comes in to the pit or else the first person to touch it is electrocuted.

There’s a number of drawbacks to electric vehicles, but people who will drive them do so either as a status symbol or virtue signal. It never ceases to amaze me that they don’t consider from where the electricity originates to charge said vehicle in the first place.

As a rural Floridian, electric cars are impractical and will serve no purpose in the event of a long term loss of power such as what happened back in 2017 when Hurricane Irma went right up the middle of the state and knocked out utilities for over a week in some areas. You’re not charging an electric car off of a gas powered generator, and even if you would, the irony would not be lost.

I’ll stick to my fossil fueled vehicles, thanks.

Oh wow, man. You’re like, a buzzkill, with all that reality stuff.

You probly downered hydrogen powered cars, too, cuz it takes electricity from power plants to make hydrogen.

People like you keep us from being progressive, man.

They are already making hydrogen fuel cell cars:

IIRC Elon Musk just recently commented that if EVs get to be any more than about 5% of cars on the road we're gonna have to generate a *lot* more electricity than we do today. And that comment certainly makes sense.

The problem there is that Rat Party Headquarters has vowed to outlaw coal fired, oil fired, gas fired and nuclear plants. And given that the Rats have now gone full Maoist we know that they'll keep that promise.Even today Kalifornia routinely has huge blackouts due to inadequate capacity.Last winter Texas, during a cold snap, had blackouts.

The West's "environmentalists" are Maoists who have even frankly observed that the earth would be much cleaner, much happier if humans were to disappear. That Swedish little twerp is what human civilization has to look forward to.

Unless you have accessories on an electric car doesn’t use much juice if it is stuck in a traffic jam.
Now if it’s 10 degrees outside...

You are right, but those massive breakdowns are part of the plan. Make the folks suffer, then propose a “solution” that isn’t a solution but takes away more of their rights.

Our baseline consumption with the HVAC turned off completely was 344 Wh/mile, which implies a possible range of 234 miles. Our second round was with the climate set to 72 degrees and on automatic, where the Model 3 consumed energy at a rate of 402 Wh/mile, just a tick below 17 percent more energy than the run without HVAC. At that rate of consumption, the predicted range falls to 200 miles. For our final test, with the heat all the way up and the seat heaters on—if you like to carpool in the winter, this number is for you—we measured a whopping 466 Wh/mi, which greatly exceeded even the highest number we got in our aero wheel cover test, and that was on all-season tires traveling at 90 mph. With the heat blasting at that rate you could expect your range to drop to a meager 173 miles by consuming about 35 percent more energy than our baseline run.

I don’t understand this. EVs have many problems, but running out of fuel is just as possible with a gas powered car.

Electric powered vehicle are are proven to be superior to petroleum powered vehicles. With one tinsey winsey little caveat.
The perfect long range battery is just a few years, months or even days away, since 1890

I’ve seen my wife’s attitude about charging things around the house...her phone, laptop, e-watch, electric toothbrush. They only get charged when she needs them...and then it’s usually too late.

“Has anyone thought about it? If all cars were electric ... and were caught up in a three hour traffic jam with dead batteries!”

Electric vehicles use virtually no battery when not moving, so they could sit in a traffic jam for days and not lose much range at all, just like a golf cart.

“Not to mention, that there is virtually no heating in an electric vehicle.”

Not true whatsoever. Plus there is no emissions from running an engine at idle to provide heat.

“And if you get stuck on the road all night, no battery, no heating !!!”

All disproven above.

“You can try calling 911 to bring women and children to safety! But they can not even come to help you since all roads are blocked! And when the roads become unblocked no one can move! How do you charge the thousands of cars from the traffic jam?”

Fear-mongering at its best. I guess you are not responsible enough to make sure your car has sufficient charge before heading out?

“Same problem during summer vacation departures with miles of traffic jams. This will make cars run out of “fuel” and cause never ending traffic jams.”

Again, electric vehicle uses basically zero battery power when not moving. You are more likely to run out of fuel sitting in a traffic jam.

Not to mention the gigantic cost of increased sized transmission lines and the structures required for them. Not to mention substation equipment and transformers. Then, if all these homes have EV’s, they’re gonna need larger distribution lines, maybe poles, and definitely transformers too.
It’s pure idiocy.
