Don't rush to buy an electric vehicle.
Can we show a little forethought and practicality?
Has anyone thought about it? If all cars were electric ... and were caught up in a three hour traffic jam with dead batteries! Not to mention, that there is virtually no heating in an electric vehicle.
And if you get stuck on the road all night, no battery, no heating !!!
You can try calling 911 to bring women and children to safety! But they can not even come to help you since all roads are blocked! And when the roads become unblocked no one can move! How do you charge the thousands of cars from the traffic jam?
Same problem during summer vacation departures with miles of traffic jams. This will make cars run out of "fuel" and cause never ending traffic jams.
But that, nobody talks about, of course!
Thermal management for battery pack is an active draw in hot conditions.
Been around a long time from various persons.
I bought an electric car recently. It gets around 300 miles range on a warm day. I know that I am not saving the environment. I am certainly not virtue signaling. I just like the quietness and smooth acceleration and the low maintenance - no radiator, no timing chain, no transmission, no oil, no serpentine belt etc... Yes it has heating and A/C and plenty of space for carrying stuff. It is a lot of fun to drive.
The majority of the EV critics in this thread are suffering from the Dunning-Kruger effect. In essence, they are not nearly as smart as they think they are. There is probably no one in the world who is as smart as they think that they are.
No big deal if a relatively small percentage of people are driving EVs. But seriously, do you really think infrastructure will handle everyone switching over?
“Electric cars are great to drive and make a lot of sense for a large part of the population.”
I wager accidents will increase with their growth, from their fast acceleration and quietness.
“A large part” is very questionable for me.
Battery power has been great for golf carts, fork lifts and power tools. But, I don’t need to depend on them in a life-threatening situation.
“But seriously, do you really think infrastructure will handle everyone switching over?”
Musk says “no”.
