A national ID is something that I have thought about for a long time. While it would be handy to have a Positive ID for voting, the libertarian slaps me upside the head...”Privacy Concern!!!”

Using (and requiring) such an ID to vote would verify that dead people, ghost voters, multiple voters, etc. wouldn’t happen.

Positive ID vs Personal Privacy is a Gordian Knot that I’m not in a position to untie at this time.
*******************************************************************************
Like many things, there is great potential for abuse — and the derps would love us to beg for a National Id, so that they could provide us with something like China has with all the spying, tracking, and social credit scoring etc.

I’d be satisfied if they just required a photo Id driver’s license or non-driver Id issued through the state’s DMV —

The real Id where you had to present your birth certificate and other data to get a renewal was an additional requirement that should have helped to weed out those who are not eligible to vote. But of course the Blue states are another story- slackers in this regard perhaps.

A few months ago I did research into sanctuary states, or ones with sanctuary cities/counties, states that allow illegals to get drivers licenses, and states with motor voter laws. Oregon is such a state. Stuffed with illegals, and anyone getting a DL is automatically given voter registration, and now it’s online and no documents must be presented. A number of others states are just as bad. So, countless illegals have DL and are registered to vote.

Thus, showing a DL is not sufficient. If India can have national voter ID cards, surely the US can do it. Such a card will prevent illegals or non-citizens from voting, plus people voting in places they don’t legally reside, etc.
