Authorities are still investigating but they believe the people involved used a legal explosive called Tannerite and had permission to be on the property

Neighborhoods in several New Hampshire towns were rocked by an explosion that turned out to be a gender reveal.

Neighborhoods in several different southern New Hampshire towns were rocked by a mysterious explosion Tuesday night.

Kingston police say the blast was caused by a family using explosives to reveal the gender of their baby.

Chief Donald Briggs said the blast happened at Torromeo Industries on Dorre Road around 7 p.m.

Kingston residents say it was like nothing they had ever heard before.

“It was earth-shaking,” said a neighbor on Dorre Road.

Sara Taglieri and her husband, Matt, live in a home that abuts the Torromeo quarry.

For Donnie Campbell and his fiancé Melissa Surgecoff of Peabody -- March 8th started out just like any other day, until Melissa suddenly started feeling intense cramping and pain.

“We heard this god-awful blast,” Sara said. “It knocked pictures off our walls.”

It shook houses in surrounding neighborhoods and was even captured on a doorbell camera from the next town over. The Taglieris called 911 and waited for Kingston police.

In the meantime, social media lit up. People as far south as the Merrimack Valley were wondering what had happened.

It cracked foundations of our neighbors' [homes]. I don’t know how that’s right.

Matt Taglieri Some claimed it was an earthquake, but that’s not the case. Our team of meteorologists said there were no earthquakes reported around that time.

Kingston police confirm it was a gender reveal using explosives.

“Are you kidding me?” said Taglieri. “I’m all up for silliness and what not, but that was extreme.”

New Hampshire is opening its coronavirus vaccine appointments to everyone Monday, regardless of residency. Police say they’ve seen the gender reveal video and confirm -- it’s a boy. And while neighbors are well aware of this explosive new trend they say this gender reveal is too much for a small town.

“It was ridiculous,” Sara said. “I don’t have any other words for it.”

Briggs said investigators are looking into possible property damage and that there could be charges in this case.

We reached out to Torromeo Industries but we haven’t yet heard back.

I guess a gender reveal party is a success if there are no fatalities?

The one occasion where “bombshell” applies, and it is not used. Boy or girl?

Does everyone now realize that a gender reveal is a BIG DEAL in these last days? If they revealed a HE or a SHE gender that would have been a big deal!

So, it’s a boy who wants to be a girl?

Possibly the worst ‘reporting’ I’ve ever read.

“Possibly the worst ‘reporting’ I’ve ever read.”

More and more common as more and more Millennials become ‘reporters’. They are poster children for the dismal failures of our pubic ed system and woke teachers.

Surprised it wasn’t a group project by Katherine, Jamal, Latisha and Eduardo (becoming common).

I know I'm both old and old fashioned, but exactly how is this supposed to reveal anything?

I do not believe that statement.

Apparently it has become common to pour concrete foundations of houses with no rebar.

A fellow I know has a house in southern NH he paid over a million dollars to have built.

His foundation is cracking horribly.

Over 30 years ago, I did a footing and 8 foot concrete walls in our barn that had no heat until 2 years ago.

I used a LOT of rebar, on 4" centers. One small crack I expected over a ledge all the rest still level and no other cracks.

Maybe the homeowner went down to check his basement and discovered existing cracks, maybe the blast helped reveal them.

i saw a “ask this old house” tv program on house foundation problems in new hampshire that are attributed to poorly mixed concrete...

Shouldn’t they be waiting until the little offspring unit has a chance to make that decision in a few years after first viewing 1000s of Tick Tock videos, facebook and instagram posts, pre- and elementary school zoom sessions and implicit sexism and racism training so it is fully informed? About science.

This is going to turn out about as well as asshats “rolling coal” that got the EPA looking to shut down “aftermarket” automotive equipment manufacturers. Look to the BATF to ban Tannerite soon.

Idiot stunts like this got tannerite banned here locally(mostly because of the fire danger associated with it). There have been severe injuries and even deaths from this kind of foolishness. I am all for blowing stuff up but one must know the limitations of the area and safety is job always.

They add pink or blue powder to the explosive.

I own a home at our farm that was built in 1946-47 and there are no foundation cracks (pier and beam with hardwood floors) in any of the original building. An addition was added in the 1970’s and there are some in the slab portion of it.

It depends upon a lot of things, soil type, rebar, the actual concrete mix, the content of the water, how much water in the original mix. The best concrete is placed not poured. How it is cured is very important too.

Depending on what the baby had to eat, the diaper could have been full of the equivalent of 80 lbs of tannerite!

Pack that much tannerite in your undies and I’m sure it will be revealing! ;-P
