this means that some 2.5 billion lived and died over the approximately 2 1/2 million years the dinosaur walked the earth.

I guess they were just around at the end.

‘Course, if a thousand a year reached maturity each of those 2.5 million years, that’d be 2.5 billion right there. Maybe not an extraordinary total after all!
