5,800 Fully Vaccinated Americans Have Contracted COVID-19, 74 Dead: CDC

Some 5,800 Americans have contracted COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated against the virus that causes it, federal officials said April 15.

The Americans contracted the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, which causes COVID-19, despite getting both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told The Epoch Times via email.

Of the 5,800 fully vaccinated people who were confirmed as so-called breakthrough cases, nearly 400 required treatment at hospitals and 74 died.

A little over 40 percent of the infections were in people 60 years of age or older, and 65 percent were female. The CDC declined to make a state-by-state breakdown available, though it has developed a national database where state health department investigators can enter, store, and manage data for cases in their jurisdiction.

The figures were for cases through April 13.

More than 78 million people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the United States as of April 15.

“To date, no unexpected patterns have been identified in case demographics or vaccine characteristics,” the CDC stated.

“COVID-19 vaccines are effective, and are a critical tool to bring the pandemic under control. All of the available vaccines have been proven effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalizations, and deaths. However, like is seen with other vaccines, we expect thousands of vaccine breakthrough cases will occur even though the vaccine is working as expected.”

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky stated during a congressional hearing on April 15 that the causes of the breakthrough cases are being probed. “Some of these breakthroughs are, of course, failure of an immune response in the host. And then some of them we worry might be related to a variant that is circulating. So we’re looking at both,” she said.

It was predicted that mutant forms of the virus could evade the immune system because of protein changes in the virus’s Spikes. Let’s hope such infections are contained by safe practices.

While I can go along with most of your post, I must disagree with

only you will pay the cost.

Really? No one else depends on "you"? "You" make no contribution to society? If "you" are on Medicare or Medicaid, who's paying for your care if you end up in the hospital or with several months of problems & recovery? If the vaccine reduces transmission of viral loads high enough to be more likely to cause serious cases (plausible but not certain at this point), is that factor unimportant to "you"? If "you" are part of a rise in serious cases, will that not likely lead to more mandates that harm others?

I'm all for as much self reliance as possible, but, I also recognize very few of us are islands unto ourselves.

The vaccines don’t work as well for a very few people with very weak immune systems. That’s probably why so very few of the oldest people experience any side effects from vaccination. They generally mount a better antibody response than similarly fragile people with no vaccinations, but some of them do get a weaker response if any at all. Their chances are better with the vaccine but not as good as people who have at least slightly healthier immune systems.

People who previously had the disease were tested for antibodies along with people who'd been vaccinated and some who had both recovered from the disease and been vaccinated. People who'd had the disease had antibodies but not as many as those who'd been vaccinated. People who had both recovered from the disease and were vaccinated had hundreds of times more antibodies: super immunity.

Some doctors wanted to recommend that recovered individuals avoid the vaccine for the sake of saving on costs, but the majority want the recovered to also get the vaccine. So that's the recommendation, for people recovered from COVID-19 to be vaccinated.

No problem. The new variants infect a little more than the older variants, but cases are very rare. In other words, not enough to be of any concern.

Well, NOOB, pick out any random 78 million Americans who have NOT had the vaccine (on average they will be younger than the 78 million who were vaccinated). How many COVID deaths have occurred among THAT population since January 1, 2021?

If you are mathematically challenged I’ll give you a hint. Take the TOTAL number of COVID-19 deaths that have occurred in America since New Year’s Eve and subtract 78 deaths. Well, NOOB, how many?

Thanks for the info. So, fewer than 100 confirmed cases of reinfection worldwide since this thing started. Since I have had BatFlu already it makes even more sense for me not to get the vaccine at this point.
