Songs about Bourbon BY ERICA PALAN APRIL 15, 2021 ThinkStock THINKSTOCK
It's way past happy hour, but it's not too late to celebrate an important moment in the history of alcohol. On this day in 1789, Elijah Craig first produced whiskey from distilled maize in Bourbon County, Kentucky. So settle down, turn up the volume and raise a glass to Kentucky and corn.
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer Famously covered by George Thorogood, this call-and-response song was originally written by Rudy Toombs and recorded by Amos Milburn in 1953.
Whiskey Bar
"Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)" contains elements of foxtrot and blues. It was recorded by the Doors, seen here, and David Bowie, among others.
Whiskey Rock-a-Roller
"Women, whiskey, and miles of travelin' is all I understand," sang Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Jockey Full of Bourbon
The first single off Tom Waits' Rain Dogs, this song was released in 1985.
Leave Your Bourbon on the Shelf
Written and performed by the Killers, this song is reportedly part of the band's "murder trilogy," a trio of songs detailing the killing of a girl named Jenny.
Whiskey Girl
This popular country song by Toby Keith was recorded in 2003. WWE Diva Amy Weber appeared in the music video.
They get on me and want to know
Hank, why do you drink?
Hank, why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Over and over
Everybody makes my prediction
So if I get stoned, I’m just carrying on
An old family tradition
Whiskey River, take my mind
Don’t let her mem’ry torture me
Whiskey River, don’t run dry
You’re all I’ve got, take care of me
Great song.
Bourbon in Your Eyes by the Devil Doll.
Whiskey Fever by Dorothy.

In 1980, country singer George Jones had been drunk for several days when he ran out of alcohol at his property in Florida. His wife at the time, Shirley Ann Corley, hid the keys to their cars to prevent him from continuing his drinking binge. A drunken George Jones decided that his ten-horsepower lawn mower could get him to the liquor store, a 5mph vehicle for an 8 mile commute. The trip was apparently successful, and Jones discusses the incident in his autobiography, I Lived To Tell It All. An unknown length of his drunken commute was caught on film.
Does “Big Rock Candy Mountain” count?
Probably my favorite version. Live in New jersey with Elvin Bishop on slide.
