Flashing objects photographed buzzing over US warships could be hypersonic drones from Russia or China, according to a UFO expert.
The photos from California were said to have been leaked from an official investigation into unidentified flying objects which was readying evidence for the US Congress due in June.
Nick Pope, who carried out investigations into UFOs for the Ministry of Defence, has speculated that one of the US's main rivals could be behind the incident.
He also believes that this was not an isolated incident and that there may well be other UFO sightings that have not been made public.
But he added the US government might not know who's behind it all as the mystery deepens, the Sun Online reports.
Mr Pope told the site: "The clue here is that in 2019 the US Navy issued guidance to its pilots (the details are classified), telling them what to do if they encounter UFOs.
"This implies we're dealing with more than just a few isolated incidents.
"Secondly, I'm sure the US military intelligence community knows more about all this than they're saying publicly."

Last month The Drive reported that US Navy warships had been swarmed by six aircraft described as 'performing brazen manoeuvres' over the warships near a sensitive military training range.
During the incident in July 2019 none of the warships were reportedly able to identify the drones and the incident has baffled witnesses.
Recently it was reported that the US has a stack of secret evidence showing UFOs doing things that have defied explanation.
These include breaking the sound barrier without creating a sonic boom, and carrying out manoeuvres which are impossible with human technology.

The huge explosion of UFO stories is probably due to the sudden scarcity of good cat videos and Kardashian gossip.;-)

I would think you would want to field test them against whomever has the best military technology deployed, while maintaining plausible deniability, and that, for the moment, would be us.
The motive behind this drip, drip, drip of UFO stories is almost more mysterious than the encounters themselves.
What possible reasons could the Pentagon have for its actions?
So I am not surprised by this. China is the greatest threat to the free world. Is it them? Very possibly. We had better get onboard real fast.
I think that would be a very good reason for these drones (in the case of the USS Kidd, testing our Aegis Combat System). But why leak these stories and videos to the public?
It IS strange. I don’t believe the military doesn’t really know what they are.
Perhaps, the Pentagon is just priming the Russians and Chinese with fake UFO incidents. When in fact, they are ours.
If Russia has them, we’ve had them longer. Same with China.
I have to wonder why everyone speculating always think they are “enemy” objects. We have high tech, and smart engineers. Of course we would be working on the same stuff.
My honest if cynical answer is that quite a lot of fiction has been constructed about the stupidity of the unwashed masses, particularly the characterization of the superstitious hayseed evangelical deplorables (like myself). Leaking a story like this could both confirm that image in certain minds as well as giving crafters of narrative a roadmap for how the common people think about the unknown. Do they try to figure it out? Do they form a cult and worship the sky pyramids? Do they build underground bunkers and eat their spam by the light of bacon fat candles while wearing tinfoil hats?

The Pentagon is “lifting their skirt” to the Chinese. This is a good way of showing an enemy their capabilities without “announcing” them.
There is no other reason to do all of this disclosure.
(Not very often I get to use that phrase... ;o))
1. It's our technology and is our way of making our adversaries aware.
2. They're from China or Russia and the possibility of them being aliens is far less frightening than our adversaries having hypersonic aircraft that we don't understand and or cannot defend against (at least publicly).
3. They are aliens.

Maybe it’s the scarcity of the Kardashians.
Oh boy. It never ceases to amaze how little people understand elementary aeronautical technology as it exists today. Nor do they understand how difficult it is to not only jump one generation, technologically, but to jump several - or more - generations - technologically.
We have UAVs that can move very fast. We have UAVs that can hover like any other rotary aircraft can hover. We have UAVs that are constructed with low-observable coatings to make them more difficult to detect using radar. We have UAVs that are airborne. We have UAVs that can operate on the surface of the water and below the surface of the water.
But, we don’t have UAVs that can do all of the above. Things that go very fast, take time to reach their speed, aren’t very maneuverable and can’t then slow to a hover...to then do it all over again in seconds. We don’t have a clue how to make that happen.
To create a UAV that possesses just a few of the above characteristics much less all of the characteristics, would represent a leap in technological advancement that would surpass the technology delta between the Wright Brothers airplane and the space shuttle. It would require technology that in any given year, would EASILY represent Nobel Prize levels of innovation.
The US government has developed ‘advanced’ aircraft in secret. But, these secret aircraft did not move aeronautical science generations ahead. Instead, they represented advancements in MATERIAL sciences, not aeronautical sciences. The B2 Spirit bomber is based on a design - the Flight Wing - that was created shortly after WWII. The F-117 Nighthawk could not win a dog fight against a Gen3 fighter, maybe even a Gen2 fighter. It’s really capable at maintaining a tiny radar signature, but as a flying machine, it’s just ok. And this all makes sense, because that’s how technological advancement is attained: incrementally.
What the US Navy has been encountering since the 2004 incident (and possibly before) does not represent incremental advancements in aeronautical technology. They represent advancement the likes of which hasn’t been seen through the whole of the 20th century.
If the military doesn't know what they are, they know darned well what they AREN'T (i.e., drones from China or Russia).
In fact, if these drones belong to China, we may as well start requiring Mandarin classes in elementary, middle, and high school because China will now rule the world.
In other words, ‘Your guess is good as anyone’s.’

Right. I find option #3 a lot less scary than option #2...and not because option #3 isn’t scary. It’s just that option #2 is REALLY bad.
