‘The Barbary wars were very popular.’
Washington wanted to pay them off. John Adams was openly against Jefferson.

‘much of modern prosperity and society depend on enforcing international rules against preying upon shipping.’
Some people just don’t want to play. Cheap oil and cheap labor is the rope our enemies will use to hang us.

Adams was a one-term President, while Jefferson's party went on to dominate American politics for the next 40 years. It doesn't seem like a policy of appeasing the Barbary States worked out very well politically for the Federalists.

So? non-sequiter

‘much of modern prosperity and society depend on enforcing international rules against preying upon shipping.’ Some people just don’t want to play.

Just stating an assumption does not make it true.

We don't need middle east oil any more.

President Trump showed we do not need Chinese labor.

The U.S. is better placed to be an isolated nation than most others, because it is large.

Allowing China to become the dominant power in the world will not end well for us.

They intend to replace us.

They view us as the enemy.

They are actively working to destroy us.

They are succeeding.

President Trump was actively fixing those problems.
