Seth Kaplan @Seth_Kaplan Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon says the officer intended to grab her taser, but used her gun instead and fired the fatal shot.
“ Good grief. An idiot then.”
**************
Well, not an idiot perhaps. But, definitely shouldn’t be working in a high stress environment for sure.
I’m wondering though why tasers are designed to have the look and feel of a handgun. Seems to me that’s not necessary.
“Why is it immediately dismissed that but for the perp not complying he would be alive?”
By that standard then every time any of us comes into contact with police we should submit to their orders regardless of whether or not such orders are legal or just.
And if we don’t then we should expect to be killed???
Excuse me for asking, but if that’s the case then what the hell do we want to have police for?
In an emergency, it would be easier to find Waldo,
on Heyman
@JonHeyman
Twins-Red Sox postponed due to curfew and potential for riots
Yup, this!
Just curious why it couldn’t be the crash that killed him?
Tactile differentiation would be critical, I would think particularly when operating at night.
Different colors would be a good idea as well. Some departments do carry tasers that are yellow or orange. But, others carry tasers that are largely black which probably isn’t a good idea.
Police chief explained that in their department they carry their gun on their dominant-hand side, and their taser on their other side - ie, right-handed police have the gun on the right etc - sounds as though she might have used her dominant hand under the pressure of the situation without thinking of the circumstances.....

Doesn’t matter
The Hennepin county medical examiner could confirm just that
the state could disagree and bring in outside experts if they didn’t like the findings
Just like with George Floyd
No, this young man was apparently accidentally killed because he had an outstanding warrant for AGGRAVATED ROBBERY (that’s ARMED robbery). He knew that they knew he had an outstanding warrant because he heard the female officer tell the contact officer that he had warrants. It was at that exact moment he started resisting arrest and managed to get back into the car.
It’s amazing how many people will comment without taking just a few moments to learn anything beyond what the headline says.
FACTS:
He was a fugitive.
He was on conditional release from jail for a February arrest for aggravated robbery - that’s the commission of robbery using a deadly weapon, like a firearm or knife.
He resisted arrest and managed to get back into the car.
Cars are weapons.
These are the facts. It’s a damn shame one of the responding cops wasn’t up to the job. But, had the young man simply not resisted arrest...and not been a fugitive from the law, then he would certainly be alive right now.
Thats not what happened.
Watch the body cam video.
She shoots him before the car takes off, yelling Taser Taser, then “oh shit I shot him.”
Ah diversity.
Did she call “Mulligan!”?
If not, she’s screwed.
She ain’t.

But she meant to say GUN..GUN...
There goes another $27 million.
And another gold coffin.
