This is my absolute all-time favorite song about cannibalism and it was climbing the Top 40 charts exactly 50 years ago at this time.
Written by Rupert Holmes, who would go on to become even more famous for the Yacht Rock classic "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)"

Cannibalism? It all depends on the sauce and the sides.

That is one of the creepiest songs ever. I remember it as a kid.

Trapped in a mine what had caved in
And everyone knows the only ones left
Were Joe and me and Tim
When they broke through to pull us free
The only ones left to tell the tale
Was Joe and me
Timothy, Timothy
Where on earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy
God, why don’t I know?
Hungry as hell, no food to eat
And Joe said that he would sell his soul
For just a piece of meat
Water enough to drink for two
And Joe said to me, “I’ll take a swig
And then there’s some for you”
Timothy, Timothy
Joe was lookin’ at you
Timothy, Timothy
God, what did we do?
I must’ve blacked out just ‘bout then
‘Cause the very next thing that I could see
Was the light of the day again
My stomach was full as it could be
And nobody ever got around
To findin’ Timothy
Timothy, Timothy
Where on earth did you go?
Timothy, Timothy
God, why don’t I know?
Timothy, yeah
Oh, Timothy
Timothy
Yeah, Timothy
Why this was ever popular is beyond me.

Here is a
remake of the song with original singer Bill Kelley and a young attractive woman named Jennifer Kane.
Not a bad remake at all!

Here is an amped-up version of the song as done by
The Wrong Dots.I believe this classic has been covered by a multitude of top-notch bands.

This is a
jazzy version done by the great Rupert Holmes himself. Skip to the three minute mark to hear him start singing it but the banter beforehand is instructive if you are a historian of this particular song.

This is another version of
Timothy as performed by the popular band Django.

1971 was the year for me when I really started to discover music. One of the first album I got as a kid was McCartney’s “Ram” album, still one of my favorites today.
