You mean Prince Phillip right?
*******************************************************************************
Yes, I wasn’t sure if I said Prince Phillip of England any one would know who I meant. And to all the others pinging me regarding his “title”.

To me, if your gonna have Royals who are married they are logically King and Queen. Never got why the title was such a big deal, nor why he wasn’t to be called King.

Anyway, I guess I should put King in parenthesis. Or else said the Queen of England’s husband.

For that matter I never got the “Constitutional Monarchy” either. Anyway he’s dead. And the headlines just said he ain’t getting the typical Royal’s State Funeral.

“shrug” Whatever ya call him - he’s dead - he was 99 and had had several illnesses lately, so it was not exactly a shock.

Your favorite historian here! Thanks to Professor Wiki and some other sources.

Prince Philip was born in Greece as Philippos Andreou Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderberg-Glücksburg and exiled when he was 18 mo. I believe his father wasn’t the most honorable man. He spent time in France before settling in Britain. His mother was the great-granddaughter Of Queen Victoria.

His grandparents were British, and in 1947, he became a British subject so he could marry the lovely Elizabeth. He adopted the surname Mountbatten after said grandparents.

King Georgie the 6th granted Philip his titles, His Royal Highness and created the Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, Baron Greenwich.

When he and Elizabeth married, there was some wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth over the last name of Philp!! Jesters danced, advisors were called, a feast or two (not really). Queen Mary, Elizabeth’s grandmother stepped in, called Winston, and said.. “Winnie love, I want a Royal Protocol that this house STAYS THE HOUSE OF WINDSOR. And Win responded and said.. “So it shall be my Sweets.”

After Queen Mary died, and Elizbeth was queen, she issued her own order in 1960 that hyphenated their names to Mountbatten-Windsor.

Prince Philip was also declared at some point to be the Queen’s Consort.

He was never a king because he was never in line to the British throne.

Same will happen with Princess Kate.. she will not become queen (unless another royal decree is decreed??) because she is not in line to the throne.

The End.
