Nope, not satire. My kids had this math 25 years ago. I think it was set up that way so the kid’s parents couldn’t help them. Remember “Rain Forest Math”
It’s again changed so my kids can’t help my grand kids.
The correct answer will not give you the right answer in today’s math.
