Selfish arrogant bastard. Lived in Key West in a big house provided by his well-to-do in-laws. 2nd wife was a home wrecker who he slapped. Spent an awful lot of time indulging in his manly whims-African safaris, marlin fishing and drinking like a fish with his friends. His talents allowed him to hit the big time and everyone wanted to rub elbows with him. Throughout the first episode he appeared obsessed with death and we all know how his selfish obsession turned out. We all have talents. He had too much of it for his own good.
looking forward to the 2nd episode. It's on the DVR.
He went too far....
Yes, Burns is good. Perhaps his best work was the documentary The Old Negro Space Program.
after working with authors in book publishing for 10 years, i learned to separate my personal experience with them from their writings’ imprint on me. Hemingway was a great writer. sometimes it is better to not know details! nevertheless, i dvr’ed this and will watch in due course.
Jagman(13) U R smart. All u guys are-especially #15.
His legacy will continue for all the reasons above. The hemingway look-alike contest is one. Distinguished looking types get a heads-up in this world.
I'm sick of the idea that writers, actors, entertainers.... etc. must be permitted their aberrant perspective on life. They need to follow the rules JUST like the people who buy into their crap
The other thing about these episodes is that I’m watching tv again. Fox is now persona non grata. The Big Chill is in the DVR. So is the Defiant Ones. I’m even watching Aaron Rogers host Jeopardy. Pretty good for the NFL which isn’t too popular these days.
Agree!
Never liked his work. Was forced to read in high school & college. I couldn’t see why all the praise. His material i found to be so uninteresting it struggled to hold my interest.
Interesting were his libertarian leanings. Didn’t like government. Perhaps Libertarianism allowed him to be himself too mucho where the self destructive gene allowed for no intervention.
Kids should be forced to read his work and take a lifetime to figure the truth. Same with all the other ‘greats’. We’ll never reach our goals without exposing them to the noteworthy’s-all of them.
A single page of illiterate commentary is far, far, far worse than either.
lol

Blew his head off with a shotgun. Never read his books again.
Hemmingway was an intolerant, self absorbed, drunken mentally ill bastard from a family of mentally ill individuals who also killed themselves.
Which all resulted in above average writings.
Wrong. His children hated him. And he was more racist than his contemporaries.
One thing I did not know but found most interesting was that Hemingway learned his style from the Kansas City newspaper, which insisted that its articles be written that way. :D

That. And the compositions from Bach that were short and simple. Like his sentences.

No Spoiler Alert here as you are still watching. But it’s interesting to see how Hemmingway dealt with his pro Stalin support for Loyalists in Spain.
And later watch and see his reactions to Castro taking his beloved home in Cuba.
Hemingway enjoyed watching Castro and Che murder people. He would sit and watch the firing squad. He had one time as a guest the writer George Plimpton who described the scene. He did not reveal what he saw for many years.
Hemingway may have had regrets as he shot himself dead.
I hope he only hit the women that needed hitting.
Thats what I was assigned to read in HS. Calling it tedious would be high praise !
He would hit is wife.
Not cool. It wasn’t manly then, and I don’t think it was ever manly.
