My employers’ human resources departments never actually have been interested in leveling me up or helping to attain a promotion in title, position, or pay.

But they have plenty of online conference training for me to submit to so they can show compliance with safety, security, and mutual “respect”.

• An old Navy term describes this: Gun decking: Filling out a log or form with imaginary data, usually done out of laziness or to satisfy an inspection.

HR departments don't exist for the benefit of the employees. They are there to protect the company from what they consider to be whining, ungrateful employees. They have an enormously outsized ego, want you to think they hold your destiny in their hands. We used to call them "Inhumane Resources".
