Many are eager to see Lee Elder at Augusta National Thursday morning in an Honorary Starter role, 46 years after he became the first Black golfer to play in the Masters.

No one might be more pleased than Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, who will be on the first tee to introduce Elder, 86, and fellow honorary starters Jack Nicklaus, 81, and Gary Player, 85.

“As we prepare for the opening round tomorrow morning, we look forward to the historic occasion that we announced in November,” Ridley said in a news conference Wednesday morning. “This week marks 60 years since Gary became the first international Masters champion. It also is the 35th anniversary of Jack’s record sixth Green Jacket. And tomorrow morning, we will also reflect on the moment at Augusta National in 1975 when Lee Elder bravely broke barriers as his name was announced on the first tee. I cannot wait to have the honor of introducing Lee and celebrating his inspiring legacy with our patrons and viewers worldwide.”

Ridley also addressed the recently enacted Georgia voting law that has been criticized as restricting access to the ballot. Major League Baseball relocated the 2021 All-Star Game from Atlanta in response to the bill’s passage.

“I believe, as does everyone in our organization, that the right to vote is fundamental in our democratic society,” Ridley said. “No one should be disadvantaged in exercising that right, and it is critical that all citizens have confidence in the electoral process. This is fundamental to who we are as a people.

“We realize that views and opinions on this law differ, and there have been calls for boycotts and other punitive measures. Unfortunately, those actions often impose the greatest burdens on the most vulnerable in our society. And in this case, that includes our friends and neighbors here in Augusta who are the very focus of the positive difference we are trying to make.”

Maybe he should be Biden's speechwriter, Biden sounds like a feeble fool race war instigator and Ridley sounds like The President of The United States.

NOT ONE white liberal 'elite' will resign from the Augusta - not one.

NOT ONE even thought the Augusta National Golf Club was segregated during the Jim Crow years and for many years after that...

The PGA Tour should pull the Masters and move it to Shanqin Bay Golf Club, China, to protest Georgia’s new voting law.

Wonder if problems experienced by Lee Trevino will ever be mentioned.
