Pursuit ends with driver crashing into semi truck in Pomona
KTLA NEWS ^ | April 6, 2021 | Staff

A pursuit ended after about two hours when the driver crashed into a big rig in Pomona Tuesday evening.

The chase went through Riverside and Jurupa Valley, then made its way through the San Gabriel Valley and Diamond Bar. The vehicle was going through Pomona around 6:15 p.m. as Sky5 arrived above the chase.

At least six sheriff’s patrol units were chasing the pickup truck.

The car was going in the opposite direction of traffic in the area of Holt Avenue, driving through red lights.

The driver got into at least one collision on surface streets in Pomona, then continued on.

The pickup truck made its way to La Verne around 6:30 p.m. then back to a residential area of Pomona.

The car got onto a sidewalk for a few seconds and made a right turn.

The driver could be seen throwing something out of the vehicle around 6:50 p.m.

The pickup truck went into a shopping center parking lot in the area of Paloma Drive and Holt Avenue, hitting another truck then continuing on. The driver then returned to the same parking lot minutes later, drove through it and then exited from the driveway.

Immediately after exiting, the car turned into the street when it crashed into a semi truck just before 7 p.m. in the area of San Antonio Avenue.

The airbags of the vehicle appeared to be deployed, and a passenger was seen hanging their arms and head out the window.

The driver eventually got out of the car, and crawled toward deputies. Both the driver and the passenger were taken into custody.

Check back for updates to this developing story.

I watched the chase on TV...

The bad guy's pick up truck was stopped by the big truck...I do not think the big truck suffered too much damage...Thank you for your public service, Mr. Truck Driver...

There were two people in the pickup truck...A male and a female...They surrendered after their pickup truck crashed into a big truck...

Ever since To Live and Die in L.A. no real-life car chase has been complete without a driving-the-wrong-way-on-the-freeway part.

I did watch one where the bad guys got away by dodging into a multi-level parking garage attached to a big shopping mall. That was that.

At least the helicopter can’t follow you.

I wonder why that doesn’t happen more often. The perps seem to like to drive back to their hoods, throw some money out the window to get people in the street, but the police keep coming until they have to run and get caught.

And why Pomona, of all places? Didn't we learn that Captain Roberts retired out there?

Back in the latter 1920’s there was a cop in the City of Orange, CA well-known for harassing kids without any real cause. He’d pull ‘em over and about dismantle the whole interior looking for...whatever. And when he found nothing, he’d drive off leaving his innocent target at the road side trying to put their car back together.

Guy fell in behind my grandfather driving grandma home from High School & there was gonna be trouble, but grandpa was having none of it. He dropped her off, and was pedal to the metal by the time her feet hit the ground. Pop had a tuned up Model T that’d top 60mph, and the cop had nothing better, and pretty soon found himself outclassed. Still, it wasn’t enough advantage for Gramps to shake him, so he went off road into the local orange groves; up one row across several more, zig-zag, doubling back, and that siren kept getting fainter, and fainter. Finally, Grandpa hit the pavement again with the siren off in the distance, wheeled back around and went home.

Now, Grandpa and Grandma had a date that night, so here was a bit of a wrinkle: that cop was on duty ‘til midnight. What to do?

Back in the day, though,it wasn’t much to change a whole car body, and grandpa had two: a coup and a roadster. So, before He went in to clean up, he swapped one for the other. He and my grandmother passed by that same cop at least three times while were out that night, and the old buzzard was never the wiser.

”And why Pomona, of all places? “

Famous raceway for drag racing in Pomona at the LA County Fairgrounds, made famous in the early sixties in the Surf music of The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, and others.

I watched it while cooking dinner. My husband and I both cheered when he hit the semi. Good job by the truck driver to pull up and box him in, just in case the car was still drivable.

Lovely Pomona (Godess of Fruit) was on the short list of sites for the original Disneyland park.....I’d say we dodged a bullet...or two on that one...

Could a body shop fix that Toyota pickup truck? Or the pickup truck should be taken to some junk yard?

I do not think that the big truck was damaged seriously at all...

#10. If the evader/driver was a murder suspect, the BEST ENDING would have been for him to be killed and his partner badly injured before going to jail as an accessory after the fact or facilitating an escape.

I like REALLY HAPPY endings.

TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. is a good movie...I also read the novel...Yes, Los Angeles Public Library had the book...The movie also had a good soundtrack...

Secret Service Agents Chance (William Peterson) and Vukovich (John Pankow) robs an undercover FBI agent...Then FBI agents chase Chance and Vukovich...The famous chase on the freeway happens...

Ruth Lanier (Darlanne Fluegel) told Chance about the guy with a lot of cash...She did not mention the fact the guy is an undercover FBI agent...

By the way, Fluegel died in 2017...Age 64...Early Alzheimer's disease.

Disneyland in Pomona...That just sounds too weird...

If Pomona had Disneyland, it would be in a better shape economically...

What would Anaheim be like without Disneyland? Disneyland does help Anaheim's economy...
