Gloria Henry, best known for her role as family matriarch Alice Mitchell in the hit '50s and '60s sitcom Dennis the Menace, has died. She was 98.
"She's flying now, free of her body," Ellwood wrote alongside a photo of Henry standing in front of a mural featuring outspread angel wings in Los Angeles. "She left on a countdown 4 3 2 1 @ 3:40pm. She was such an incredible woman in so many ways.

I'm reminded of something Ron White said. He said the only way he could ever touch his toes is if somebody cut off his feet and handed them to him.
Thanks for the memories, Rest in peace.....................
Jay North, the actor who played Dennis is still alive................

RIP, Gloria. Thanks for the long ago memories.
A long life, well lived. Rest in Peace, Mrs. Mitchell.
Wow, Jay North is almost 70. Time marches on.
Small World...Dennis the Menace (Jay North), married my cousin, and now lives in my parents old home in the small North Florida rural town of Lake Butler. Sorta out of the fast lane type of living.
Just 3 years older than me!.............
I visited friends on a farm near there many years ago. It was a beautiful area. Lots of livestock and orange groves.
I love it when one of the child actors gets out alive. So many had their lives messed up from then on.
Thanks for posting. And yes, I did check wikipedia and it confirms that Jay North is there.
always hated that show. Wanted to spank that kid.
The whole point was that he didn’t mean to do anything bad. He was always trying to help.
He was a prison guard at one point.
A cultural way of life we will never experience ever again.
Sad to hear, and best wishes to her family and friends
End of an era
Is it legal to show reruns of this show? The idea of a nuclear family living in a white picket fence type community free of garbage or graffiti with kids pulling silly hijinks on their grumpy old neighbors (who despite the appearance of grumpiness watch over the kids and would defend them to the death) that do not include drugs, hookers, or the constant threat of violence or 3 AM shoot outs, where all neighborhood kids are in bed before 9 to be ready to attend their schools without metal detectors of which the parents are actively involved in their childrens education is the exact definition of extreme third reichiness
I was reading “Dennis the Menace” comic books before the TV show started...I remember a notice in one of the comic books about how there would soon be a TV show based on the strip. Since we did not have a TV I did not watch it regularly but later saw it at least once or twice. I remember the George Wilson character was much different from the way he is portrayed in the strip. Of course the TV show had to end after a few years when Jay North became too old to pretend to be a 5-year-old kid.
Why? The show is pure Americana. It would never be made today.
Sounds like she was a Christian. Yay God! It’s surprising to me, how many of the older actors and actresses were Christians. A lot of them were won through Billy Graham’s ministry, and a lot of them attend(ed) The Church On The Way, which is a very conservative, Spirit filled denomination, the Foursquare Denomination. Jack Hayford was the pastor for many years. He’s still alive, but I think he Pastor Emeritus, now. I wish we had a Foursquare Church around here.
