The quake was felt as far away as Lancaster, Laguna Niguel, Rancho Cucamonga and Ventura, according to the USGS.
The M4.0 that just happened was under Lennox, CA, near Inglewood. Very deep at 20 km, so everyone is at least 20 km away. Would have been felt by most people awake in LA. Movement was thrust, probably not on any mapped fault https://t.co/UIPbVH0kw5

The temblor was preceded by a pair of quakes, registering 3.3 and 2.5, by about 30 minutes.

Lucy Jones must be 150 years old.
When she passes they will have to use carbon dating to determine her age.
God bless her — she has always been a calm voice of science in the many earthquakes L.A. has had. Sort of the earthquake Vin Scully.

I remember there was another female Dr. who used to there on every earthquake as well, but she retired a few years ago.
I just can’t remember her name but I do remember we all used to wait to hear from Dr. Jones and the the other one to get a solid handle on what has happened and what to expect.
Carolyn something?

Very deep at 20 km, so everyone is at least 20 km away. Km? This is America, and in America, we measure distance in miles.

20 kilometers also isn’t “very deep” for an earthquake.
Very deep is more like 200 kilometers.

The gal with the short hair. Always looked POed that reporters bothered asking about small temblors.
I liked her.

Is a 4.0 really considered an earthquake by California standards?
To: LibertyWoman
Only when it wakes you up.

4.0 is just enough to make a native Californian say, “Huh, an earthquake,” and then go back to whatever they were doing.

My wife always got bugged with her because she seemed rather smug and condescending when answering questions. She came across as, "C'mon, do I have to explain this to you children again?"

depends if you are near the epicenter where it will surely get your attention. LAFD went out to check structures this a.m. so take your lead from that.

That’s what I was thinking! haha!
To: fidelis
That’s what I thought...lol. On the other hand, a 4.0 in my state (Missouri) is enough to drive crowds of people into the street screaming! lol!
