The quake was felt as far away as Lancaster, Laguna Niguel, Rancho Cucamonga and Ventura, according to the USGS.
The M4.0 that just happened was under Lennox, CA, near Inglewood. Very deep at 20 km, so everyone is at least 20 km away. Would have been felt by most people awake in LA. Movement was thrust, probably not on any mapped fault https://t.co/UIPbVH0kw5

Precursor to the BIG ONE?
Looks like a complete sequence of shocks and aftershocks, so probably not.
>>Is a 4.0 really considered an earthquake by California standards?<<
Not really. Sort of a Hmmmm...
We spent our whole lives being warned about pre-quakes although I never experienced one and I was 1.5 miles from the Northridge quake epicenter and about 2 miles from the Whittier Narrows quake center.
Now that was an earthquake. I remember when that hit.

They just don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
Well, they do and LA is going to see it sooner than later. I grew up with talk about “the big one” particularly after the Sylmar/Newhall quake.
yep, woke me up short shake and back to sleep
For the people that died in the Sylmar and Northridge quakes, those were “the Big One.”

I just can’t remember her name but I do remember we all used to wait to hear from Dr. Jones and the the other one to get a solid handle on what has happened and what to expect.
Carolyn something?”

I can never remember her name either.
Hutton retired from Caltech on Jan 30, 2015.
