For some it's too much to watch. Others just can't turn away.
The televised trial of Derek Chauvin, the former white police officer charged in the death of George Floyd, has provoked strong emotions among many Black men and women — all tinged with an underlying dread that it could yield yet another devastating disappointment.
For many, it has brought back memories of the disturbing video of Floyd's last moments as he gasped for breath with Chauvin's knee on his neck. The video galvanized protests in cities across the U.S. and the world, as the words "Black Lives Matter" took hold.
"I had to mute the TV," said Lisa Harris, 51, of Redford Township, just west of Detroit. "Hearing Mr. Floyd continue to say he can't breathe and call for his mother — it was a lot. It's been a lot to watch."
Steven Thompson remembers closely watching the 2013 trial of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida and feeling blindsided. Zimmerman, who identifies as Hispanic, was acquitted on all counts in the unarmed Black teen's death, including second-degree murder.
"I didn't expect that outcome," Thompson, 35, said. "But I'm a lot less ignorant now."

LOL... Took me a couple seconds.
<< “I had to mute the TV,” said Lisa Harris, 51 >>
When the defense starts she’ll want to shoot the TV. But no worries, she can always loot a new one in the post-trial riots if justice is served and Chauvin is acquitted. Or loot one in the celebratory riots if he’s convicted.
“Zimmerman, who identifies as Hispanic, was acquitted on all counts in the unarmed Black teen’s death, including second-degree murder,” because the evidence conclusively showed that he was innocent by reason of self defense. Is everyone in the media a total a@@hole who can’t let go of a pet narrative?
There is no way any of the charges can be “proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Steven Thompson closely watched the Zimmerman trial and was blind sided? So he could not have watched it very closely. The prosecution was a joke.
You are exactly right...No matter whether he’s found innocent or guilty, there are going to be riots...
I saw the video of Floyd in the store and the video from when police approached and what ensued...if he had cooperated and got arrested like 1000’s are everyday he would be alive...the toxicology report is cut and dry . The officer did not kill him it was more the amount of fentanyol in his system....But this racial circus will continue without my participation. Our republic is getting very divided and as the old saying goes”a divided house is easily felled.”
Bread and circuses.
Have not watched a single minute of the coverage.
“If watching TV is too painful for you, DON’T WATCH TV!”
...yeah! Watch “The Jeffersons” or “Good Times” or maybe a good movie. Like “Blacula” or “The Wiz”! Commercials are always entertaining. They all feature blacks as the hero/smart shopper/wise investor/man about town, while the fat dumpy white guy gets shit on and ridiculed for his stupidity in any number of ways! So cheer up! There’s plenty of great TV out there!
“the former white police officer”
So, he’s no longer white?
And now we know he had a serious chronic drug problem and this was not the first time he OD’d, it had happened a couple of times before.
He’s far from the Christian Saint he’s been portrayed to be by the MSM.
Like they weren’t before.
>When the defense starts she’ll want to shoot the TV.
Yeah, the defense lawyer is going to go gung-ho on the drug angle and show quite a few tapes of Floyd and his associates getting arresting, swallowing pills, going to the hospital for ODs, and so on.
What I’d like is for him to get the pregnant woman he pointed a gun at to show up.
Apparently so.
It’s kinda sad. Once upon a time, Associated Press hired writers and editors who weren’t borderline illiterate. They were always propagandists but at least they could write a damned sentence that wasn’t asinine. Now, it’s all about the woke narrative, and to hell with any sort of standards.
Who gives a crap?
This ain’t the O.J. Simpson trial- not by a long shot
The Aint even close to a murder trial; and it wasn’t even close to a murder
George Floyd the sainted one, died of a drug overdose - it’s very clear
This trial is all politics
Derek Shoven did not kill George Floyd but didn’t know him from the past and may present his knee on his neck for a little bit longer than usual because of the animals he had against him it did not kill him he did not even really harm him
What really went wrong?
As usual - the left ; the communists ; the scum bags the anarchists
The video of the knee on the neck was circulated as far and wide by leftists on Twitter and others sewers to try to rile up people and get them to riot
We had riots and at least 30 states ; we had at least dozens of people killed in those riots - if not hundreds
The first one that comes to mind is that brave retired cop in St. Louis ( David Dorn ). that was trying to help his buddies and got shot for it
So a druggie dies and then yeah we still have riots nationwide to kill I don’t know dozens of times more people but that doesn’t matter does it?
Furthermore all point the same thing out is happened in 1991 with the Rodney King riots I brought it up at the time with my liberal boss he was crying after seeing the video
Some 27 people died in the riots in the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict/ did any of those lives matter?
Is famously stated by Rodney King himself
Can’t we all just get along?
The state of today's journalism. You get your reporting from Twitter and use spellcheck for grammar.
I’ve read that the medical examiners determined death to be blockage of blood flow caused by trauma. Did they issue two reports to placate both sides?
And that one juror will have a contract on his head that hundreds of gang bangers will accept. His life will be “legally” destroyed, even if he lives.
It doesn’t matter if the accused is acquitted or found guilty; there will be riots either way. You can take THAT to the bank.
I haven’t watched one minute of it. I refuse to participate.
