Perhaps a life changing event for me was seeing Frank Zappa
“Bowie owed his career to Mick Ronson.”
Mick Ronson had 50% the talent of Bowie. Bowie was a genius who was immoral. My father hated Bowie and especially the album cover of Diamond Dogs. Gender bending is always boring.
I’m partial to Station To Station, myself.
I saw Bowie at the Fern Park (North Orlando) Jai Alai Fronton in 1974 on the Diamond Dogs tour. Pretty impressive show actually. Small venue which was nice. Of course the first several rows were a bunch of gay and/or androgynous males.
I was not a fan of glam rock but Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs LPs were very good.
The title song for his album Aladdin Sane, has some outstanding jazz piano in it. It takes someone who really understands how to make a piano ‘talk’, to produce such great work. It sounds spontaneous, and perhaps it mostly is, but done with an experienced hand.
