I’ve called this Fern Bar music, and have since I was about ten — and all because this sort of 70s mellow gold/easy listening stuff was what I thought would have been played in the Regal Beagle on Three’s COmpany.
Brings to mind that 70s swingin’ singles culture with lots of blow dried hair, leisure suits, pina coladas et al.
I was a punker/new waver in my teens (early - mid 80s) and now have a soft spot for this stuff because it transports me back to a more sane/comfortable time.
I miss this era. And actually have the Sirius/XM channel programmed in with my 1st Wave, Industrial/Nu Metal and techno stations.
Check out my post #49 - I echo the same thoughts. I was coming of age in the late 1970s and got in on the “fern bar” scene just as it was ending. But I remember when men used to blow dry their air just like the girls, drink daiquiris and even some of us wore platform shoes and such (with our leisure suits). I mention that only because I see so many comments here about how sissified boys are these days. Back in my high school in the 1970s, you had a much harder time telling the boys apart from the girls, especially from behind.
