I dated Fonda Dicks in college. She’s in the Iowa Girls Basketball Hall of Fame.
Oh yeah...we always traveled with a gallon zip-lock bag of the chocolate mini candy bars...and would offer some to the flt attendants. Seemed to help. Now days, protocol probably requires an unopened box from a gift store in the terminal. (Great suggestion BTW.)
Also, last time the wife and I flew First Class on air miles, I had the flt attendant offer my seat to a uniformed service member (with my wife’s OK because she would be sitting beside them). I flew cattle car, a soldier flew First Class. The flt attendants still gave me First Class service in the back. They were great.
That's a shame. I can understand that some want to continue with the job for financial reasons.
“I liked the gay flight attendants on Delta. They always gave me free drinks!”
I knew some Delta babes and they said that EVERY male flight attendant was gay. I guess they’re into that kind of work.
They run on a seniority system. Its all you need to know.
that would be me!! I always flew PSA
A few years ago, I flew back from Ireland on Aer Lingus, and the flight attendants were beautiful — every one looked like a model. Had to fly Delta on the final leg. It was a very small plane, and it only had one attendant. She was fat (busting out of her uniform fat and could hardly squeeze through the aisle), messy hair, and chipped fingernail polish. Her attitude and demeanor matched her appearance. It was the flight from hell!
Man, why is “The Blue Danube” playing in my head all of a sudden?
Been a couple decades since I had to fly for work.
But back then, hated to have a flight on Delta, with the most irritable, nasty stewradesses of any airline.
I am in violently in agreement with you.
;-)
Me too. I also wear a nice Sinatra fedora. Stewardesses tell me how much they appreciate my dress and I remind them of their rather or grandfather.
I tell them the aircraft is their office and I respect the job and dress accordingly- lots of bonus points with that.
Shoot. Back in the ‘70s the Northwest Orient stewardesses were old and worn out, too. That was the beginning of the whole PC thing, so beauty and competence were sacrificed for wokeness.
Ha ha! Yeah, I believe it! In the late 90’s, I was house mates with a flight attendant and former Bond Girl (from OCTOPUSSY). She only worked the international First Class United flights. Her stories were astonishing. She said that (back then) the ladies got those jobs in the hopes of meeting rich men.
Watching their flight crews strut through an airport is like watching models walk down a runway”
L.A. to Tokyo flight on Singapore Air Lines circa 1990. Some of best 13 hours of my life. Thank you Singapore Girls! Nothing like that, just 1st class Service by pretty courteous ladies
“Philippine Air has some hot ones too.”
Have you seen the flight attendants for their competition, Cebu Pacific? Now there’s a fun airline.
Yes, I have flown Cebu Pacific too.
There's nothing illegal about it in most Asian countries. It might be illegal in the U.S. but others have different labor laws and U.S. law doesn't apply there.
An example is Singapore. They typically don't hire flight attendants older than their mid-twenties. They have six year contracts, once they expire they can be renewed for another six years if they've done a good job. They can't work past the age of 35 unless they move to another job, flight attendants are only younger than 35 and there's nothing against the law about it. Not surprisingly, flying Singapore Airlines is a much, much more pleasant experience than Delta.
