Sarah Palin has tested positive for COVID-19, and she's urging others to continue taking the pandemic seriously.
The former governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee-turned-TV personality confirms in a statement to PEOPLE that she contracted the coronavirus as did some of her family members, including 12-year-old son Trig. Of her diagnosis, Palin explains that it began when "one of my daughters awoke to having lost her sense of taste and smell [and] immediately had a positive COVID test, then was quarantined in isolation.
"I then observed symptoms in my son Trig, who curiously is the most enthusiastic mask-wearer, and after our numerous negative tests over the year, he tested positive," Palin says. "Children with special needs are vulnerable to COVID ramifications [Trig was born with Down syndrome], so with a high fever he was prescribed azithromycin, which really seemed to help, and I increased amounts of vitamins I put in his puréed food."
Palin says she and her son "buckled down in isolated quarantine" and she "still tested negative." However, "symptoms started overnight with a slight fever and sore muscles."
She adds that she had some of the "bizarre" symptoms characteristic of the virus, like a loss of taste and smell, leading her to assume it was "unmistakable COVID caught me."
Palin tells PEOPLE that COVID-19 can "really knock you down," encouraging everyone to remain vigilant about public health amid the ongoing pandemic.
Palin, who announced in January that her mother, Sally, had died, says that dad Chuck Heath "just got" his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
"I'm more concerned about him and his peers, and this beautiful older generation's health and quality of life should be a national focus and priority," she says.

Sooo...she & family caught colds (it’s a CORONA VIRUS) and luckily no problems as of yet...sheesh...take more Vit D3/K, Sarah and get your family’s D levels tested.
Dear Sarah,
Social distancing from strangers and washing hands are more effective.
I caught a bit of a fever looking at her picture, and had other bizarre symptoms we had better not discuss here.
Seriously, I have no doubt that anyone could in theory catch this and get either a bit run down or have a near death experience, it’s designed that way and as to the loss of taste, caribou steaks were never that great anyway, think of it as a win-win.
My Uncle grew up in the depression, and his family was so poor that all they could afford to eat was turnips. Believe it or not, even though he went on to become successful in life, he always had a taste for turnips.
I ate so much spinach, that I can’t stand the thought of it
Can I ask about some of the negative comments here? Why? Is Sarah Palin too liberal for some of you? Did she offend conservatives in some way with previous actions? Please refresh my memory. Thanks.
Why not two or three masks?
Welcome to free republic. This isn’t twitter or FB where members ridicule/ insult others who do not think like you. Especially here in the FR community where many of us have been conversing with each other for years.
Perhaps it’s not Sarah, per se’. But, that she is supporting a narrative that many here don’t agree with. Plus, she used People magazine for her interview. That alone is odd.
As a guess, folks are dissappointed that she’s joined the “Wear yer maks!” chorus.
You can have mine. I hate turnips!
I can see wearing a mask at this time in stores etc but outside while taking a walk, jogging, or shooting a few hoops by yourself?
I see this all the time, mainly the younger fools, who walk down the block and through an empty park. The general lack of common sense in our society is frightening, and especially among our politicians and some medical “leaders”.
So far no flu epidemic this year. Why?
The sea levels haven’t risen despite all the rain we’ve had. Why?
Record cold and snows in parts of the US that haven’t had them in years. Why?
I guess that the scientific/medical, media, academia and political worlds are like a box of chocolates or cereals - some are full of nuts, flakes and fruits.
One of the refrains I hear from scrupulous mask wearers, when told they have contracted Covid-19, is, “But I wear my mask all the time!” Why?
I wear mine when I must (stores, work) and ditch it when I can (sitting down to eat in restaurants(!), home, outdoors). I should have caught it by now, going by my attitude. But I haven’t. Or I didn’t know it when I had it.
She’s in the age group eligible to have had the vaccine weeks ago.
I got the vaccine yesterday—the last thing I’d want is to get covid just before getting the vaccine! I made it this far.
Instead of wishing the Palin family well and embracing the freedom/liberty to choose, such as the wearing of masks, they trash. I see people wearing masks outside, in their cars, etc. all the time. I think it's silly, but recognize it's their choice and their own business. I also wonder of the maturity of some posters - some are still developing is the nice way of phrasing it.
I beg to differ Holly. There are plenty of vicious threads/posts here quite frequently. You cross some of them and you will know it.
you’re on the wrong site.
head back to reddit and politico
Same symptoms my wife had. She tested positive. My kids and I tested negative.
For those of you in Rio Linda, "Moniker" is not the name of the girl that Bill Clinton abused.
