Congressman Matt Gaetz claimed that, as part of an FBI sting, his father was supposed to contact this former DOJ employee on Wednesday to arrange a downpayment of $4.5 million on the $25 million extortion. The U.S. Attorney’s Offices for Northern and Central Florida declined to comment.
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that tonight somehow The New York Times is leaking this information, smearing me and ruining the investigation that would likely result in a one of the former colleagues of the current DOJ being brought to justice,” Gaetz said.
Gaetz told Fox that the former DOJ employee going after him was David McGee, now a lawyer at Beggs & Lane. In an interview with The Daily Beast late Tuesday night, McGee said any reports of extortion involving him or his firm were “completely, totally false.”
“This is a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that Matt Gaetz is apparently about to be indicted for sex trafficking underage girls,” McGee said.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) on Fox News just accused David McGee, former DOJ official now with the Florida law firm Beggs & Lane, of attempting to extort him. McGee did not immediately responded to requests for comment via email/phone
Before the Fox interview Tuesday night, Gaetz used his Twitter to call on the Justice Department to “immediately release the tapes, made at their direction, which implicate their former colleague in crimes against me based on false allegations.”
When asked how long, and in what ways, he had been cooperating with the feds, the MAGA congressman simply texted The Daily Beast on Tuesday night, “March 16 first extortion text was sent.” He did not immediately reply to follow-up messages seeking clarification.
Andrea Clark, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, provided no further clarity. “We don’t confirm or deny the existence of any ongoing investigation. We can’t make any kind of comment,” she said.
The supposed DOJ official extorting Matt Gaetz was David McGee, a career guy in DOJ who served as a 1st AUSA. Not someone in a position to extort. He says, “This is a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that Gaetz is apparently about to indicted for sex trafficking girls.”

By definition, a lying piece of dogMitt.
“If it’s a false allegation, the blackmailer and the blackmailed know it’s not worth 10 cents.”
Not true, because the target was the father who may or may not be in the know of his son’s personal life.
Blackmailing parents and grandparents over alleged crimes of children and grandchildren is a growing scam industry.
And the entire purpose of the blackmail attempt may have simply been to put the story on the front page of the news industry. A gaslighting and smear operation.
Republican: If Matt did anything wrong, he should be investigated and if true, punished.
Democrat: If Swalwell did anything wrong, he should be promoted and rewarded with a larger income.
F’em.
5.56mm
But they can publish all sorts of unsubstantiated lies and allegations.
AND he was a federal prosecutor, like that POS Andy Weissmann.
‘
Blackmail was pretense to interview Dad, surprise him and have him obfuscate.
It’s only the pretense - the Sting.
Rumors about Matt and a teenage boy. Rumors about Matt and a teenage girl. Cui bono?
Gaetz, of course. But he may have laid down with a dog buddy, one Joel Greenberg, and got fleas.
Ask yourself this. Would you buy a used car from this guy? 😏
Late 30s man with a 17 year old girl is now SEX TRAFFICKING?
That’s absurd....
Of course that’s the age of Randy Andy’s girl on Lolita Island
Sex crimes against womyn have taken a weird turn to say the least
That said Gaetz always struck me as right minded but a mite ....I’m not sure....contrived or for effect....does that make sense....he’s said a few things I disagreed with
If gaetz doesn’t have his own tape and photo evidence he is toast.
Why was the DOJ investigating such an insignificant case other than to embarrass him politically?>>> And specifically signed off by Barr.
Who ever leaked this to the NYTs committed a felony, obstruction of justice and interfering in a federal investigation.
I am sick of the media being immune from prosecution from shielding criminals. If your "source" is in the act of committing a crime they are not entitled to anonymity and if your media organization hides the source of the illegal leak you are an accessory after the fact.
Now THAT is a comment worth reading! (I’m just going to roll with your facts)
“By definition, a lying piece of dogMitt
or a lying piece of dogSchiff
Barr opened this investigation but sat on Hunter Biden’s crimes exposed on his laptop.
And if we believe Matt, we’re just considered a bunch of conspiracy theorists. Remember Brett Kavanaugh; they brought in women who told “facts” made up of whole cloth, which democrats insisted were absolutely true. No doubt they’ll do the same to Gaetz. House democrats are already calling for him to resign. As for the New York Slimes, remember Walter Duranty. They will stoop to anything to help the left.
Unless I see unaltered photos or video of Gaetz dallying with someone underage, I won’t believe a word against Gaetz. (And he’s not one of my favorites, personality wise; he seems to love the camera). However, he’s excellent at dishing dirt on democrats. For that, I’m a fan.
Now cut that out!
Before forming an opinion I’d like to see a statement from Mr McGee saying he was never in touch with Matt or his family.
