ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WPDE) — The shooting happened on Interstate 95 in Robeson County near the weigh station just north of the city limits of Lumberton.
Eberly, 47 of Manheim, Pennsylvania, was shot through the passenger door of her vehicle on the way to Hilton Head for vacation.
Investigators learned a road rage encounter allegedly developed. The victim's vehicle reportedly came close to the suspect's vehicle during a merge into a lane.
The suspect's vehicle then came alongside Eberly's passenger side and the suspect rolled down his window, fired multiple shots into the passenger door, and one struck Julie Eberly, according to Sheriff Wilkins.
Witnesses said the suspect sped off and exited at Exit 22, crossing over the bridge coming into Lumberton, while Eberly's vehicle pulled over on I95 awaiting assistance, Wilkins added.
Deputies are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a mid-2000 model silver or grey Chevy Malibu or Impala with dark tinted windows and chrome around the window frame operated by an African American with dreadlocks. No further description or information is available regarding the vehicle.
Sheriff’s Investigators are asking that anyone with information pertaining to this investigation, please call the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at (910)-671-3170 or email sheriff@robesoncoso.org.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office also announced a $10,000 reward for information that could lead to the cause and arrests.
Lumberton Police and the State Highway Patrol are assisting in the investigation.

Ok, I’ll tell you: I got a lot of mileage on that road and seen a lot of road rage. I’m not justifying the road rage, but almost every time it has happened it hasn’t been over nothing or just random. If they can pass you without you slowing them down, they won’t waste time on you.
Here’s my experience: You want light traffic? Use it after 10pm. Want to stay safe? You better play ball with what’s on that road or avoid that road when it’s crowded. There are no cops around for miles to do anything for you. If you don’t like *my* answers then go ask the thug (not just local) on his way down to Florida or up to NY that thinks nothing of shooting at you in what he thinks is the middle of nowhere. I bet I can guess at least 50% of the vehicles that have thugs and guns in them but cops can’t stop them over my suspicions, that’s racial profiling.
You have to deal with it being uncivilized and hope for the best. I tell my wife to get the hell off that road as soon as possible going south (which won’t get her lost in the middle of NC). In our case, it’s the exit for I-795.
The only advice I can give you is if you’re in the left lane and no one is in front of you, keep watching the rear view mirror. If someone is barreling down on your behind, punch it until you can move over. Don’t wait for them to be on top of you with no one in front of you. If they want to do 100mph, let them. If they are coming in off a ramp, move over if you can but don’t speed up on them.
