Can anyone else think of another ‘behavior’ tax? I honestly cannot. We have a tax on the purchase of things and we have a tax on income. But, we haven’t - that I can remember - ever taxed behavior.
I guess the Obamacare tax came close. But, Roberts said that wasn’t a tax, right?
If they can tax the miles you drive, they can tax anything you do. How is this not a burden on the right to move freely?
Sin or vice taxes are very common, e.g. distilled spirits and tobacco.
Next up is anything item that has sugar in it, regardless of amount. Or a tax on items that have high fructose corn syrup. The list is infinite with these people.
Roberts said it wasn’t a penalty, it was a tax. He said it’s good to go because congress has the power to tax.
