Two California teenagers who admitted to beating their classmate to death have been sentenced to probation.
In September 2019, the teens attacked 13-year-old Diego Stolz in the yard of Landmark Middle School.
Cellphone video showed Stolz being punched repeatedly before falling and hitting his head on a pillar.

Ugh, this really makes my blood boil. Those two rotten, evil scumbags should be locked away forever. It is only a matter of time until they kill someone else. Hopefully, karma will hit them hard.

That was firmly an assault, and they weren’t in each others faces, but it wasn’t any sort of intentional murder.

Not remotely OK, but not murder, and not really even a beating (that entails repeated hits). I think there’s room for discretion on this one - though simple probation seems light.

I wish they'd have let it play longer. Looks like the kid hit him, then lunged to try to keep the smaller kid from actually hitting his head, but sounds like he didn't get there in time.
Since at least two were involved and the short video shows one of them using their wonderful aggressive no-limits tactics, it’s safe to assume this a typical a low-life encounter.
Like I said, if you love your kids, keep them out of public school.
The whole video was not shown. Two were charged in the assault. Only one was shown in the video. What else happened we are not privy to. How many times was he hit? Only fact is that the innocent kid is dead.
IMHO the Stolz family should use the opportunity to practice the art of legal jurisprudence and sue the school, school district and the other two families for all they’ve got.
The article says that the two older boys continued to hit the victim after he had fallen.
So, yeah, probably not intentional murder, but reckless or negligent homicide.

Looks like he was sucker-punched in the head, fell stunned down against cement pylon and was then whammed by another heavy head-punch as he slumped semi-prostrate.
The young attacker's intention was to severely hurt this kid.
A condition for the release of these perps should require a small tattoo of above pic be placed on forearm of each delinquent--not removable for five years on penalty of incarceration..
