I spent a year there 60-61 SAC base.
We used to drive by Larsen AFB and you could not see the B-52’s, but you could see their tails. It was fascinating.
When I was a kid in the early 60’s, the B52’s were silver with white bottoms. By the mid-60’s they were green camo on top and black bottoms. They came in right over our house. To this day I am seriously impressed by those things.
BTW, FWIW, occasionally a B-36 would fly over at very high altitude. They literally looked like little silver crosses in the sky.
Oh, and I heard no small number of sonic booms back in those days. Interesting times. :)
I was in first grade, watching the B-52’s land just over my house. :)
My father actually worked at the base. You may have known him. He worked on the analogue tail gun computers on the B-52’s.
