They use mindless fear to justify the seizures because they cannot possibly win their gun-grabbing arguments on substantive grounds.
The Democrats, whipped into a frenzy by shootings in Atlanta and Boulder, are once again coming for the Second Amendment. The Constitution, the relative rarity of mass shootings, the overwhelmingly positive use to which people put guns – none of that matters. The Democrats want an unarmed population and they will use whatever opportunity presents itself to achieve that goal.
Joe Biden freely professed his ignorance about events in Boulder but was certain that taking guns from law-abiding citizens was the fix:

While we are still waiting for more information regarding the shooter, his motive, the weapons he used, the guns, the magazines, the weapons, the modifications that apparently have taken place with those weapons involved here, I don't need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common sense steps to save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act. What about the millions of civilians killed by their own leftist government. I have seen numbers ranging from 100 million to 360 million. Wouldn’t the plans the leftists have for guns be more effectively used on themselves? Chop them up, melt them down. Think how many lives could be saved.
If we are going to ignore the Constitution, I propose that we toss aside the First Amendment and specifically target Islam to make it illegal and shut down all the mosques. If the media thinks that is a bad idea (they would), then I’d like to see them explain why tossing aside the Second Amendment is a good idea, specifically to target “assault weapons”.
Good luck trying to ban 20+M ARs.

There are many millions of illegal guns in the ghettos—c’mon lefties, go get ‘em!
They can ban what they want, but people will still be able to get them.

There was an anon on Reddit who said we would see mass shootings or a domestic terror attack which would be blamed on Trump supporters. The attacks would be a pretext for gun grabs. He also described the election steal just when we thought Trump had won.
This was entirely predictable.
How ‘bout they capitalize on death to bring back the death penalty, specifically public hangings?
They keep trying to address "gun" violence after every mass shooting but it is not the guns that are violent.
The loony bins who wield the guns are the problem. The mentally ill and delusional folks who decide to take their frustrations and vengeance out on the public.
The leadership in this country needs to address the mentally ill and unstable people who walk amongst us and who can't function in a civilized society without resorting to violence.
But the democRATS take these "opportunities" to push their agenda to dismantle and disarm the law abiding public of their constitutional 2nd Amendment rights. They are not the ones causing the problem.
Senator John Kennedy, Republican from Louisiana, said it best when he compared the epidemic of gun violence to drunk driving.
"We have a lot of drunk drivers in America.....the answer is not to get rid of all sober drivers. The answer is to concentrate on the problem."
The Left is always trying to solve this problem by going after the wrong culprit.
