Assuming they can access a sample of the modified DNA from the suspect, they can still match it. If using a database, likely new DNA sample would not match the database (prior to illness) DNA.
I don’t know enough about genetics to know if the rest of the DNA strand is pristine (so you could compare non-Covd genomes in the sample to the suspect).
