LOS ANGELES (AP) — George Segal, the banjo player turned actor who was nominated for an Oscar for 1966's “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” and starred in the ABC sitcom “The Goldbergs,” died Tuesday in Santa Rosa, California, his wife said. He was 87.

He was also in The Hot Rock with Robert Redford. Not one of the big blockbusters that Redford was known for, but a dry comedy about a jewel heist that doesn’t really quite go according to plan. Segal had some great lines in that one, but Zero Mostel stole the show, as he usually did.
Funny, I enjoy reruns of the Match Game from the 1970s. It was double entendre and un-PC at their finest.
And I couldn't believe he was 87. I had him in the high 70s.
“The Owl & The Pussycat” with Barbara Striesand.”
HAHA, I never saw that movie, but hubby always talks about one scene with him saying “I want to see cycle sluts”, that he says is hilarious. I guess you have to be there, because I never really understand why it’s so funny, but hubby still cracks me up with it.
Maybe we’ll watch it in George Segal’s honor this weekend.
Streisand is awful of course as a thinker, but as an entertainer she’s one of the best.
I don’t watch much TV but I have seen that show perhaps more than any in recent months. It isn’t preaching the modern day garbage. And yes I noticed that he seemed to slow but I noticed it more in his speech than anything else.
yup
100%
I liked him in the TV show Just Shoot Me. He was also good with Denzel Washington in Carbon Copy.
It was an interesting show, but so many characters on it had basically the same character. Self centered, ignorant they are self centered, high society mover, uptight neurotic nyc person. The tall brunete woman was basically the same thing, only female. Spades character was like that but just not allowed to win very often.
His snooty wife and stepdaughter and his friend Dick Martin made me laugh.
This movie is where I learned the derogatory expression “Mr. Charlie.”
RIP, George Segal.
Where’s Poppa?
RIP
He was always a joy to watch.
Yep, loved him on Just Shoot Me & 70’s movie with Goldie Hawn The Duchess and the Dirt water Fox
St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.
Enjoyed his work. RIP.
Loved “Who’s Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?”, with Jacqueline Bisset.
Totally agree. This film is a treasure. I still watch it regularly. Stunning on so many levels.
