My wife brought up a good point comparing COVID to H1N1. H1N1 was bad, but pales in comparison in # of cases, because we did not test everybody and their brother for it which kept case count down. If you factor out the nursing home debacle, was H1N1 as bad as COVID?
COVID was a Weapon of Mass Economic & Cultural Destruction
The mortality rate for H1N1 was 0.02 percent, while the mortality rate for COVID-19 is 0.65 percent.
H1N1 was an influenza, which doctors are very familiar with. They knew how to diagnose and treat H1N1, even if it was different than normal. Clinicians did not require much help outside of the ordinary. They could at once start producing vaccine against H1N1 virus, and vaccinating first the most vulnerable in our population, then the rest of the population.
In fact, the H1N1 virus was a part of the ordinary seasonal flu vaccines for several years after the first outbreak.
By comparison, COVID-19 has a basic reproduction number (also called an R0) – the number epidemiologists use to describe how easily a disease transfers from person to person – anywhere from 2-3x higher than the seasonal flu,
They had to destroy before they could rebuild their utopia.
