At the 5:40 mark in this 11-min video Merle’s son Marty talks about his late grandmother (Merle’s mother) then sings Merle’s hit “Mama’s Hungry Eyes”. The song begins at about the 7:30 mark and continues to the end of the 11 minute video. The entire video is excellent. The 3 sons tell interesting, often funny, stories about their dad.
After that, check out the 2nd link (below). It’s to the same show. But in this clip brothers Ben and Noel sing several of Merle’s songs.
All 3 of the sons are very talented. Marty, the oldest, especially looks and sounds like Merle.
Link 1 of 2: Marty discusses his father and grandmother (Merle’s mother), then sings Merle’s hit “Mama’s Hungry Eyes”. As mentioned, the song begins at about the 7:30 mark in the video, but you won’t want to miss the interesting and often funny lead-in by son Marty:

Hard pass. Merle morphed into a POS liberal puke.
A little inside story passed along by country singer Gary Morris:
When the family was planning the funeral they called Marty Stuart to attend and perform as the two families are very close. Marty was in Merle’s band for years. But Marty was already scheduled to play the Grand Old Opry that night. Marty called Gary Morris and asked him to forego the service and play the Opry instead so he could make the funeral.
And of course, Gary did and it all worked out. And that’s the country music family doing their thing.
Merle Ronald Haggard (April 6, 1937 – April 6, 2016)
“I’ve got to be honest,” he [Merle Haggard] says. “I met President Obama and he was a nice fellow, but I’m not going to vote for him, and I’m not going to vote for Romney. So, that leaves me without many options. I don’t see much that I like in either of them. It’s a tough world, and I don’t think either of them is capable of representing this country right now.”

On the other hand...
“some were stunned last year [2015?] at a concert when Haggard sang his latest song, “Hillary.” It was about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and how “changes need to be large / Something like a big switch of gender / Let’s put a woman in charge.”

You couldn’t resist being a jerk about a dead person. Not impressive. Most people don’t let politics make all their decisions about others.
Thanks.
Nice story. :)
Too soon I guess?
He’s been dead for 5 years!!
It’ll get kind of crazy real fast if we toss out of our lives and areas of entertainment everyone we disagree with politically. Can’t even think of a classic movie or TV show that didn’t have at least one known liberal or lefty appearing in it.
My Mom loved him until she went to his concert and asked him for his autograph and he hit on her. She loathed him after that. I don’t think she ever listened to him again.
I knew Merle Haggard most of my life. He was an ass.
Ha. Great story.
Very true.
Lol!
No one could steer him right, but mama tried.
I suspect it may have been his good buddy, lefty (no pun intended), Willy Nelson that influenced him to lean more to the left politically.
On 2nd thought, pun IS intended...
Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson - Pancho and Lefty

LOL!!
But seriously, Willie Nelson is a solid lefty, someone who thinks a lot more about politics than a MH. I’m sure he had a strong influence on him.
