INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KXAN) — Abilene Christian upset the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday night, sending Shaka Smart and the Big 12 Tournament champions to an early postseason exit.
Abilene Christian sent a shockwave through the state of Texas with the upset of the Longhorns in their second tournament appearance. The Wildcats only became a Division I basketball program in 2013.
ACU’s Joe Pleasant, a 58.8% free throw shooter this season, hit two free throws with 1.2 seconds to deliver the massive 53-52 upset over the Longhorns. Brock Cunningham’s last-second, inbound heave resulted in Texas’ 23rd turnover of the night to end the game.
The 23 turnovers is the most for Texas basketball in eight years, according to CBS Sports.
This is the 22nd time in the modern era of the NCAA Tournament that the No. 14 seed has upset a No. 3 seed.

I picked Illinois to lose also.... to Gonzaga in the final!
With the limited fans in the stands, a lot of weird things are going to happen in this tournament.

Ohio State - GONE!
Michigan State - GONE!
Illinois - GONE!
Purdue - GONE!
Michigan, Maryland, Rutgers, and Iowa still alive.
True. Some huge upsets this weekend. Killed my pool....
I picked Gonzaga to beat Baylor in the final...My main entry to the Yahoo contest...
I doubt if anyone picked ORU to beat Ohio State and Loyola to beat Illinois.... but I had both of them in the FF. Guess I was too Big-10-centric.
The last time Loyola Chicago knocked Illinois out of the tournament, the Ramblers ended up with a pretty good run in the NCAA’s.
My three teams: Florida, North Texas and Texas Tech are still in. (and in the same region).
Either Gonzaga or Baylor will win the tournament.
My pick is Gonzaga. They may only play 7-8 players, but fatigue won’t be a problem because the media breaks are insufferably long. Gonzaga also defends the 3-point line very well and no team has better team chemistry. Gonzaga has 4 very good players who can play point guard and shoot 3-pointers.
Baylor has three excellent guards and a good front line.
Wisconsin is just too slow to keep up with Baylor. Second half should be a blow out.
Those Longhorns were just in a hurry to start their NBA careers. These kids always turn pro a year too early and wind up on the bench or in Europe instead of staying another year.
Teams west of the Mississippi will dominate the Elite Eight.
Never happened before

So much misinformation on Free Republic...
Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas. His birthplace is restored and a huge bust is prominently displayed on HWY 75.
He acknowledges being born in Texas, but claims Abilene, KS as his hometown.
Wisconsin about to go down too!
My mom graduated from ACU in 1957. lol.
Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas but grew up in Abilene, Ks. The Eisenhower Library and Museum are located in Abilene. Ike and Mamie are buried there. It has been closed for a year because of Covid, which is rediculous. I’ve been waiting to go there, since they’ve re-done the museum. Been there many times over the years, clear back to 4 days after he was buried there.
My brackets...trashed...to hell...
Abiline Christian and Oral Roberts have big upset wins....there’s a trend....
Hi.
I’m pissed the NCAA eliminated VCU without a fight.
